Wow that's great feedback on the Ref6... I am currently on the 4th day of my honeymoon with my Ref 5se.. It's like rediscovering my music again. She is a keeper..
For now.. |

For those of you who have any experience listening to both the AR Reference 5SE and the new AR LS28 preamplifiers, which sounded better for you?
Thanks. |

I auditioned both, unfortunately not at the same time but a few weeks apart. I preferred the Ref 5SE, slightly. For me the Ref 5SE has a bit more air and the voices and instruments sound a bit more natural. My humble opinion...

I've had my Ref 5SE for almost a month and am very pleased with the improvements it has made, including more detail, more air and natural, and larger soundstage. I have a pair of Bryston 7b3 mono amps and PMC Fact 12s. I've never had an ARC amp and am curious to know if the combination of the Ref 5SE with a Ref 75SE or 150SE may further improve the sound. I don't have the ability to demo one. I appreciate your feedback.

The current line up of ARC amps provides a tremendous amount of low end grunt for a tube amp. I compared the Ref 150 with the D'Agostino Momentum stereo amp in my system and found that the loss in bass impact was very slight on some tracks and not noticeable at all on others. Although I loved the Dags and think they are the best ss amps I've heard, I still preferred the ARC Ref 150 which had more color, texture, bloom, dimensionality at a cost of a mild loss of transparency.

Years ago I ran a SP8 with Cary SLM 70,s monos with sweet success. Currently running the Ref 3 with Accuphase A65 with great success.

I just purchased a demo LS28 from my dealer. This is my first foray with real audiophile equipment. It is paired with a set of SS Emotiva monoblocks XPA-1Ls and B&W CM1 bookshelves. It is a humble set up but it sounds lovely.
