Default Sad and Happy

Well I'm a little sad today, my beloved Thiel 3.7's are moving on to a new home. Happy because I've started a new adventure with SF Olyimpica lll's. Considering the fact that Thiel is moving in a new direction and won't be producing Jim's designs it's time for me to move in a new direction too !!!

My local (long time) dealer offered me a fantastic deal I couldn't pass by, Colleen was even excited. They delivered and helped me unpack and set-up today. Boy do I hate getting in the attic to store the boxes. Did a little casual listening, it's a good sign when you can't resist turning up the volume. Doing some break-in with my Esoteric Disk. After they are broke-in and we are back from vacation I'll have more to say and pics.

Congratulations - The Sonus faber Olympica IIIs are beautiful speakers, and should be quite a change in perspective from your "beloved" Thiels. I think that they'll prove to be a great match with your Levinson electronics and you'll grow to love them too. Enjoy the tunes!

A change in perspective just scratches the surface!!! The SF's are so radically different from the 3.7's I don't know where to begin. The 3.7's really excelled in detail retrieval and speed but never seemed bright in my system. The SF's display all the detail but have a very relaxed, musical quality that defies description. Their bass seems the easiest to quantify being fuller and warmer, maybe a tad slower but "right". WOW!!!

Tom, congrats on joining the world of SF. As a recent inductee myself, I appreciate and can relate to your comments on what you are hearing - music, detailed and relaxed at the same time. Craig

Tom...congrats on the O3s I am still hanging on to my Thiel 2.4s Love 'em and have a hard time letting them go. Let us know what you think of the O3s. I would be especially interested in your compare to the Thiel 3.7s which I have heard quite a few times. Enjoy the new speakers

Tom - after breaking in please give me your thoughts on whether they are fine in the lower regions without a sub-base system. Congrats on a fine pair of speakers. Do you know the secret Sf handshake - afterall, they are Italian?

Cyril: Early on my first thought was to go back to the 2.4 because of the smaller size and weight. When the company changed hands and Jim passed that really pushed me to look in other directions. I considered the 802D but size and cost were an issue. It was very difficult to let go of the 3.7's, I enjoyed them immensely, however after this brief time with the SF O3's they seem so musical and natural I am amazed!!!
