If pressed, I would likely pick the Mk1s but that may be because I have developed a fondness for them over the last 9 years of ownership. I still have the SRM-007I that came with the O2mk1s as well but it has been boxed for serveral years. I do prefer the look of the O2mkII and they are also slighty more comfortable. Too your point on the 009s,

I treated myself to a new headphone system in my study over Xmas(Woo WES and 009s)...see study system pics(these photos still show naim CDS3 and Qute...although I put the CD555 and ND5XS in this week)

MobileMe Gallery

they are better...in terms of resolution, neutrality and transparency...and I think they do take it up a level as compared to the 007s...but I have found that some recordings can be brutal with the 009s while more listenable on the 007s. I love all three and could live with any of them for a long time...My first pair of stax headphones were the Lamda Pros/SRM-1mk2 which I purchased in 1990(22 years ago)...I still have both of those two...and use the Lamdas for when my kids want to listen with me in the study system. only have had to change the earpads twice ...enjoy your new toys
Thanks for your input. I have to say, it did take some hours to get used to the 'stat' phones. I've always used dynamics.

Regardless of the sonic differences in quality I perceive, one thing I notice about my Stax setup is it is very easy on the ears. I can't stop listening and is so very comfortable. I suppose some might call this lack of listening fatigue?

I'm a musician and also have mixed and mastered some jazz albums. My last project out to be released on Feb 1. I have to say, I wish I experienced 'stat' phones earlier but am loving them now over my dynamics.

I think it is great. It is full but not taking anything away from the highs and the details in the instruments are the best I've heard.

I noticed with the Stax 007 mk2, when I put my hands close to the phones while listening, the sound changes. What is that?

By the way, the Stax combo is fantastic with classical music. Symphony level orchestras. Listening to Jacqueline DuPre play the Haydn Cello Concerto and it is stunning.

I will use this setup to ascertain all my mastering projects along with my main mastering setup with dynamic speakers. I've been skeptical about burn in but Stax proved my skepticism to be in error.

Listening to my new album with Nicki Parrott (www.nickiparrott.com) and her voice makes you believe in the power of music all over again. Looking forward to the Blue Note concert with Nicki Parrott.

I don't think there is a bad way to listen to JDP.

That's almost enough savings to pay for the Stax SRM-006TS tube headphone amp ($1399.99) from ElusiveDisc. The Stax amps at pricejapan are all 100 volt models, so you want to buy the amp in the US to get the 120 volt model. So $4450 plus shipping will put you in headphone nirvana. That's a little easier to take than the $10K I mentioned above.
How honest / serious / trustworthy is pricejapan?

Awesome. That is a bargain! I doubt the local dealer will match AU$3,942. That might be my XMAS present to myself.

I've read that they are OK.
