1KW buys the Fuji X-E1
I was on vacation 2 weeks ago and had only my iphone 5 for a camera because I was too lazy to lug around my DSL bag with assorted lens. I had what is considered a lightweight DSL, the nikon D7000. I enjoy photography but lugging even the D7000 with a 18-200 zoom always banging into things as I carry it on my shoulder just was not getting used very much for the last year. The nikon D7000 takes great picture and combined with a 10-24 lens and a 85 mm tele gave me the range for most situations, but in the end I traded it all in yesterday for the Fuji X-E1 which from what I have read has a reputation of taking great pictures rivaling some of the new FX sensors in a lightweight body and much smaller, lighter all metal lens. I am just learning how to use this camera and will post some pictures later on today. I chose the silver/black body with the 18-55 2.4-4 zoom and the 60 mm F 2.4 macro/portrait lens to start. I ordered the half leather case. For general walking around the 18-55 zoom will be the go to lens. The auto focus and sharpness of this lens is very nice. The 60 mm F 2.4 while very sharp focuses very slowly, tends hunt and is pretty much useless in low light unless you manual focus, I am not sure if this lens will be staying or be returned. I have upgraded to the latest firmware (which is easy to do) for both lens and the body. Both lens and the body have excellent feel and build quality. Would like to get some tips from others here who have the Fuji X series camera's and lens.

Here are a few macro shots , available light 1600 ISO . I find the best way to focus the 60 mm macro in low light is to put the lens in manual focus mode and hit the AF-l button which will rough autofocus the camera . Then I press the 10x mag. dial and manual focus for very sharp pictures. The lens has nice Bokeh as you will see. The last picture of the cartridge is a crop of the picture before it and the last picture which says "Mcintosh" is a crop of the picture before it as well.

David,
Congrats on the XE-1. I think you'll find the 18-55 to be the go-to lens for your camera as you say. I plan to pick that up at some point, most likely.

Congratulations David ... and it's been and while since you and I were on the same thread ... I miss chatting with you.
Anyhoo. The Fuji line of cameras is VERY impressive. I bought the X100 a or so ago because I always felt uncomfortable carrying with me $6K+ of Leica M + lenses. As a result I left it home a lot. But I loved the rangefinder design, ergonomics and aesthetics. The X100 fit the bill perfectly. My only issue with the X100 is the fixed lens. 35mm is optimal, but there are times when I wish I had more range (both up and down the focal length.) I might consider the 18-55 as Puma Cat suggested. Enjoy you camera! Alberto |

Thanks, having fun learning how to use the new camera. This camera makes you think more ie setting exposure compensation while looking at the on screen histogram etc
By the way Alberto with a "m adaptor" you can also use your leica glass on the Fuji X series camera's. |
