Why not use a CR1 for the center and surrounds or TAD Evolution Ones for center and surround? Anything else will not be the right match sonically.

Other than that, ditch the TAD speaker totally and have a serious listen to Legacy Audio stand, floor standing and in wall home and pro designs.

Duddleston has been named in several pro audio mags and in the news for his pro studio, full theater and home theater accomplishments. He has been asked to and has a long of full theater installs to his credit including both home and pro theaters and full consumer theaters at malls, shopping centers, historic theaters in Illinois and elsewhere. Very unique set of credentials...

Check his home and pro offerings...you will not be sorry....

I heard the stand mounter and the floor stander. Unbeatable at the asking price.

Ivan, terrific work.
Bart great idea! I’ll take a peek and see what they have going on these days.

Mark... I’d love to have the CR-1 for a center but I’m not sure I can swing the cost since I have to get plenty more equipment in general (surround speakers, amplification for the surrounds, projector, seating and aesthetics) not to mention the cost of finishing the rest of the basement... I know I know! Priorities! But we are finishing the rest of the space which is high on our list too.

I’ll certianly take a look at TADs other offerings, another grid suggestion! I have thought about parting ways but the TADs CR-1s are just so awesome... I don’t think I can! And thanks for the legacy suggestion too! Lots to think about and learn!

Mitch,

I feel your pain and understand; this is one of the reasons I sold off my 7.1 HT and 2-ch hybrid system that I had over-built back in 2008-2009. It was truly insane bi-amping fronts with Edge NL12.1s, bi-amping my side and rear surrounds (all 4 surrounds were 200 lb each full range speakers to match my mains!) with custom built Edge 4-channel G8s,...etc, etc, etc...all this only to have 'yet another standard' in HT encoding/decoding, video, etc...come out every 6-9 months. I finally had to get off the merry go-round.

The CR1s are amazing,...matching them will be difficult it not impossible unless you go with the same family of drivers.

I have an alternative suggestion;

Legacy Audio AERIS for your mains plus Wavelet
Legacy Audio Marquis XD Center
Legacy Silhouette In-walls for your surround sides and rears
OR
Legacy Audio Phantom XDs for your surround sides & rears

Net: A hell of a lot less than $175K even with subs of your choice

OR

Legacy Caliber with Wavelet x 7

Legacy Silhouette In-Wall x 7

OR (since the AMT Ribbons in Legacy's current are as close to the Be tweeters in the TADs that I've heard),...

Keep your CR1s, pair them with a Marquis XD Center, and go with Phantom or Silhouette in-walls for your 4 surrounds....

all options alot less than $175K
