Has anyone with a C2500 pre amp teamed its DAC section with the MCT 450?
I'm also curious as to what advantage the D150 has over the 2500's DAC.

Thanks!

D150 processes DXD and DSD files which the C2500 cannot do. The DAC in the C2500 through the USB processes files at 32/192 max. Would only be useful if you are listening to music through the USB. Although, I have to say, I am using solely my D150 now for USB music listening. I am using Roon Labs as my front end. Most folks are using JRiver. Roon is killer. Check it out, will index your whole digital music library and integrates well with the D150 as it recognizes it as an approved DAC to work with.

Thanks FritzCurtis!

I am only recently trying to get into digital flies. Having ripped all our cd's through ITunes onto an external hd I tried to plug the laptop into the USB on the 2500.

The 2500 was not recognized by the laptop. I tried ITunes preferences and the Audio Midi setup in the utility file. It could be a set up thing but I wonder if the laptop USB's have enough juice for the 2500 and the external drive.

The laptop is a standard 15" 2010 MacBookPro running Yosemite. I also have a 2008 dual quad MacPro desktop but logistics prevent it from being a source without long cables and most importantly, expertise in sheetrock and spackle .

Laptop should be no problem. I run a mac mini on mine. Not dedicated but as my regular computer and music server. I cracked it open and replaced the drives with 2tb SSD drives. One side is for music and other for files, etc. I have a Synology NAS for music storage. Once I purchase music from say HD tracks, it goes to my NAS automatically, then to my MB100 which is configured with my Google drive and synchs everything in the cloud. So I have three places where the music is stored and synched automatically, including iTunes. D150 plus the MB100 have worked well for me. I can tell you once you get into digital, especially listening to it with a tube pre-amp (C2300), I will never go back. Music presence is unreal.

FritzCurtis-

Thanks for the info! I'll continue with the digital thing as a challenge and convenience.

Now all other factors being equal, a screw top is better on a wine bottle than a cork. As I was once told however, it takes away the romance. So does all other factors being equal, digital take away the romance of an LP? Or is this for a new thread/debate? All comments welcome!

Love this hobby, love this forum!!

Just checking on MCT450 owners.

How is it holding up. reliable?

Still on the fence about spending 4K for a transport. However, the Mac reliability and longevity keep me interested.

Hoping it would be major upgrade against my Cambridge CXC transport.

I don't know that I've ever had my Oppo not recognize an SACD.
