An ELP dealer has one on the "goN" and has a new price of $18K for the LT-1LRC. I accepted his retail price listing since he mentions they are an authorized dealer. Wouldn't surprise me the way the dollar has dropped across the foreign currency exchanges.
Regardless, the models aren't inexpensive: International Pricing: Model Speed (rpm) Disc Size (inches) Price LT-1LRC US $12,000 / 8,500 € LT-1XRC $15,300 / 10,830 € LT-2XRC $16,400 / 11,600 € Note: You are responsible for the shipping cost from Japan, as well as the Import Duty and Sales Tax in your country. If you want the convenience of CD or digital music than I would stay in the digital domain. Using the ELP to playback vinyl reintroduces the D2A conversion which for me defeats the purpose of vinyl of maintaining analog thru the playback system (ofcourse assuming that the vinyl you are playing is sourced from an analog master tape as opposed to being cut from a digital source).

My tree died early last year --
Anyone willing to send me some seeds (I'll take those other seeds too -- helps with the depression). Bob

This is all very interesting to me, especially in light of my recent journey to get back into music and upgrade my "vintage" system which consists of a Mac C26 pre, Hafler DH 550 amp, Thiel 3.6 speakers and a Sony ES-555 front end.
This journey is 9 months old (and still going on) and over the course of this time I have been visting and listening to a variety of systems to find the one that makes music sing to me. And throughout, my listening was done with CD's, after all I haven't played my turntable in at least 10 years. Until recently!- where I heard the all reference MBL System (9008/6010D/101's) that made my jar drop. This system was in the owner's house (he has a B/M store as well) and he is a vinyl junkie. In fact, when we scheduled the demo, he told me to call him the night before at his store so he could bring home a CD player (Audio Aero Prestige-$15K) because all the music I was bringing was on CD. After listening for about 2 1/2 hours, I popped in Dark Side of The Moon CD (SACD Japanese Pressing) for the finale, which I thought was simply outstanding. After it was done, he asked me if I wanted to hear it on LP? . Which I gladly took him up on. Well, to this day, I can't believe the difference. The LP just took the system to another level. The soundstage was quite wider, deeper and higher. Vocals were more natural and real and 3Dimesionality was incredible. Sounds coming from everywhere! I still have a vivid memory of listening to Great Gig in the Sky (the woman who is singing but no words) which sent shivers down my spine! Talk about making music sing! FULL DISCLOSURE- His TT rig was in the neighborhood of 60k so it wasn't a truly fair comparision. It consisted of ClearAudio Master Reference TT/Master Reference Tangential Arm and Aesthetix IO phono preamp with dual tube rectified power supplies. |

That's a fairly common observation. I've witnessed seasoned audiophiles and audio store owners that have not been exposed to high end vinyl rigs be simply blown away once they do hear it.
Then of course both digital and vinyl guys are even more blown away when they hear a professional grade reel to reel playback of master tapes. Quote:
