Default Too Short = Potential Problem

So, I had a relatively thick 10 gauge one meter power cord not being used in my system at present -- I tried installing it where currently I am using a 1.6 meter cable I intend to replace through an upgrade. Now that was an eye-opener! The shorter length precluded my ability to fit it between the wall outlet and the component I was seeking to power without subjecting both ends to severe strain.

The lesson I learned was, with "major league", heavy gauge power cords, a length of at least 1.5 meters is necessary and 1.75 meters is probably an ideal minimum for most installations.

This is exactly why the base (shortest) length Shunyata power cables are...1.75M in length.

I have experience only with the CX line and I have currently a black mamba hc/CX powering my Yamaha CA-1000 integrated amplifier with very good results. I find it hard to know the sound signature of a cable when there are no comparison. What can be roughly expected from a Venom NR-V10 compared to my actual BM HC/CX?
Grant or Caelin will be the best folks to provide the most detail on this question. I also use Black Mamba CX for my components, and Black Mamba HC/CX for my power amp, and they are really excellent power cords. There is a reason you hardly ever see them for sale used. In my experience, all Shunyata power cords are very consistent in the way they sound, and are a lot like Dynaudio loudspeakers, very neutral but also very organic and musical-sounding in presentation and never, ever fatiguing. Quite the opposite; two words I often use to describe Shunyata's products it is they impart a wonderful "listening ease" that makes listening to music engaging and involving. You find yourself listening to music and NOT to "gear"...which is as it should be.

My guess is the Venom NR-V10 will be....quieter.

The Venom NR Series is culmination of 20 years of R&D and a long legacy of power cable manufacturing. I consider them to be the finest cables we have ever built considering their modest price. As I have said elsewhere, I am currently using them in our reference system and do not feel the need to swap them out for anything else. FYI they replaced our reference level Sigma NR cables. Are the Sigmas better? - of course. But they are closer than you would imagine and they have the same sonic signatures.

This what they DON’t sound like:
Slow, fat, bloated
Fuzzy, flat, plastic, lean
Etched, bright, grainy
Uneven, tonally coloured.

All of the above are common flaws associated with lesser power cords.

But as always, test them your yourself and make up you own mind. If you compare them to a competitive cable be sure to compare them to cables that are two to three times their price point.

And BTW - they come with a Lifetime Warranty.

I would agree. I own, or have extensive experience with, a number of the Venom line of products, ranging from the Venom HDMI, USB, RCA interconnects, Ethernet cable, power cords, and speaker cables, and from the fairly extensive and controlled "benchmarking" I've done, the Venom line is consistently competitive with other manufacturer's products costing, on average, 3X their price.

I just replaced a Python Helix Alpha on my Modwright KWI-200 with a Venom V10 and it's quite a bit better! More clarity, better defined bass, bigger soundstage...etc. Just ordered another one. Seems the new NR tech is the real deal.

Yes! It is the real deal for sure! I've got the NR-V10, V12 and the new V14 Digital power cables in and they are "game changers". When I installed a single NR-V12 going from the Triton v1 to my Schitt Gumby DAC, the digital front-end took a big step up in performance...for virtually any attribute one would care to discuss. The first words out of my mouth after I plugged it in were "F*CK ME!!!" And the cable it replaced, the Shunyata Black Mamba CX was no slouch, it's a 10 AWG cable with 200 individual connectors and excellent plugs, but the NR-V12 is considerably better, as you have determined compared to your Python Helix Alpha. More performance and considerably better sound for a cable that is ~1/3 the price of the Black Mamba.

BTW, don't overlook the Venom NR-V12...its REALLY good and perfect for low-current components e.g. DACs, preamps, phono stages, etc. It will even be very effective on low- to mid-power amps. I think the NR-V10 and V12 represent the biggest jumps in power cable performance and sound-quality I've ever experienced.

And, they're musical as all get-out.

I ordered an NR V10 and received an NR V12 instead.

I am curious how each sounds. Has anyone listened to both on the same component?

I could always get both.

Thanks
