I thought the VAC gear sounded great, but to be honest, I thought it was let down a bit by the Gershman speakers. I think the system would have sounded even better with another choice in speakers.

Did you listen to the speakers wit h your own software? Did you listen with analog or digital?

I love my old VAC CLA1 MKII preamp and would love to have some of the newer gear. Kevin Hayes makes some really nice components.

Had one of their Phi 300.1 amps for quite a long time. Kevin Hayes and Brent make some really nice stuff. The 450 is a beast!

We listened to digital in the room, but with the Esoteric front end, I really don't think the source type was any issue at all. I listened to the Esoteric digital front end quite a bit in the Cabasse room, and have heard an older Esoteric universal player extensively (>12 hours on a wide variety of content), and there's there's nothing wrong with digital when using Esoteric gear; it's some of the most impressive digital gear I've heard.

I say this about the Gershman speakers because I heard the same VAC preamp with the new VAC Statement monoblocks on another system at CA Audio show and that system did not have some of the shortcomings I heard with the Gershman speakers. Oh, and we did listen to analog on that VAC system at the CA Audio show, FWIW.
