Problem with JL 110,112
I have a question about the JL Audio 110 and 112 which I own. I calibrated these subs per instruction manual. I do not use the subs for music since I have the B&W 804S speakers and they handle the bass output pretty well.
Recently I went to re-calibrate both subs. I was unable to do the calibration. When I stared the calibration it indicated that the volume was to high. I lower the volume consistently and both subs remain the same shutting off the calibration sequence. Did I damage them. Thank God I had the levels of both subs written down and I leave those settings on as they were the original first calibration settings. I tried unplugging both subs for a minute or two thinking that they would RESET...no luck. At this point there performance is superb even with this issue I am having. Do you have any thoughts on this? I can't believe that I damaged both subs when all I was trying to do was re-calibrate. I appreciate your comments, Thanks Frank |

Frank.......Are you running the f110 and the f112 as Master/Slave?

Sorry but it was an early night for bed last night.
Both are on Master. They are positioned in the front and back of the rooms caddy-cornered. My processor has two dual mono sub-outs. When I first did the calibration on these there was no problem. Played with two or three times using different movies and both subs operated fine. The performance of both subs are still at peak capability tight, smooth extended bass. I just want to make sure I did not damage them. I have no intentions of selling either the 110 or the112. Thanks for your help. |

PS
I am intend on purchasing the Marantz 8801. Should I let Audessey do the calibration on the 110 and 112 or have JL do the calibration. Again Thank you. |

According to the instructions using the Audyssey Pro kit, you should do both -- first with the sub and then with Audyssey.

Frank......Try unplugging the subwoofer's input from your pre/pro, then run ARO. Follow the JL Audio ARO procedure exactly doing each subwoofer separately. Make sure your Master/Slave switch on the rear is set to Master.
Plug JL Audio microphone into subwoofer and place the microphone at your primary listening position near head height. A mic stand works good for this. Set Master Level to 12 o'clock as a starting point. Set the Level Mode switch to Variable. Set LP Filter to OFF Set ELF to "0". Press Calibrate button and the Green Light will come on. ARO process begins in 5 seconds. If Green Light starts to blink slow after 5 seconds then raise the Master Volume control and press Calibrate button again. If the Green Light starts to blink fast after 5 seconds then lower the Master Volume control and press Calibrate button again. There have been instances of microphone failures. In that case the ARO process will not work. If all else fails call JL Audio in Miramar, Florida. (954) 443-1100

Hey sorry for not getting early. I will try all of the above.
Never thought about a mic issue. I don't have any issue with performance. JL Audio is rock solid! Love these subs. I just hope I did not screw them up. I had no problem before relating to calibration. Thanks again. |

Well I found the issue with the 112. Seems like the 112 does not react well with calibration when there is a chair in front of it that is only two feet away. I re-calibrated the 112 and it is just as powerful as when I first set it up..
After I dialed it in I watched Wil Smith in "I Am Ledgend". The opening scene where Dr. Robert Neville is driving a Shelby Mustang thru the city streets of NY is awesome sounding. My floor rumbles when he comes in for a pit stop to do some hunting. The 110 I might have to have serviced as there is nothing that I do that will allow me to calibrate. The last idea I have is to disconnect the power and maybe it has to reset. I really don't know. I just wanted to update my progress. All is good I am have way there. |
