Cheers.
Thanks - I will be doing the Bybee rails on the 2-channel DAC and I will be adding the Pulse Gen ZX this time on the 105. I have the Bybee rails on my 95 but not the Pulse Gen ZX.

I didn't ask about the Cardas XLRs, but I am in a similar situation where I will probably not use the RCAs either. I am using the XLR outs on my 95 now.

Um. What language are you guys speaking? There's got to be a SNL comedy sketch in this exchange somewhere.

Hi John - you are correct in that we are talking in acronyms and about items that aren't obvious or clear. I run into that all the time in the IT field as well, not just the audio side of things...

The two items I am talking about are a couple of additional add-on options outside of the standard tube modifications that ModWright performs on the Sony and Oppo players. I won't post direct links to their websites, but feel free to google search on them and you can learn a lot more about them. I will post a brief description that is sent out to ModWright customers when ordering what they would like from their player (prices removed):

Bybee Music Rail

- The purpose of the Bybee rail is to significantly clean up and improve power quality for the main supply voltage to the DAC chip. This is VERY measurable with test gear and clearly audible in listening tests.

- Cleaner voltage to the DACs result in: Lower distortion, lower jitter and lower noise floor. This translates to greater detail and resolution WITHOUT the characteristic digital 'edge or glare' that is attributable to jitter.

Audio Magic Pulse Gen ZX

- It operates on the principle of noise absorption in the space surrounding the internal power supply within the player.

- It simply adds more dynamic and detail, due to a further lowering of the noise floor

Hope that helps...

Yes, it helps, thanks for taking the time! You really didn't have to take the time, but you did and that's what's great about this site. Folks care.

I really was just playing with you guys. It struck me funny at the time, this language that we adopt. A fellow pilot and I were jabbing on and on one night at a dinner party while our respective ladies were just sitting there with their mouths open. Finally one of them says, "What in God's name are you two talking about!" My wonderful daughter, a marine ecologist, got into a conversation with a fellow scientist and I quickly got left in the dust. I thought she was just my little girl. Turns out she is a full fledged professional scientist with a language all her own.

I love it. Carry on!

Thx! Wow...that brings the mod to about $3k (not including the player) but from consensus, it's still worth it. Put up a review once you get it.

Gotta love TLAs....and at least I hope you weren't referring to this SNL sketch.

---- So, now the Oppo 105, modified that way, is roughly $4,000+ or so?

* Theta Digital has a new Blu-ray player (transport only), and it retails for $3,995 US.

Hi Bob,

Yeah but the Theta is "only" a transport. Isn't the whole point of ModWright mods to crank up the analog side? Otherwise, you may as well get the BDP-103 and do some mods (WA Quantum Chips, LPS, chassis dampening) to it for a lot less $$$$. Besides, I find the Theta pretty bland looking.

Now the Ayre is another story...that one is striking! Wished they had that option...a CNC'd chassis to stuff the modded Oppo goodies into.

If you buy the Oppo-105 and have it modified by Modwright will you get the performance of a player that cost 7 to 10k?

I should be able to answer your question based on my personal impressions in another couple of weeks. Based on my experience with the ModWright Oppo 95, I definitely believe so!
