Hi Bart,

Chiloé is very beautiful indeed, so peaceful, the Pacific right there and the town's speed is like an old TT that needs a new belt he-he. Great cuisine and great place to fish.

Ref our hobby, last time I was in Chile I had to go to a tournament down south in Curicó -lovely place too and a fellow audiphile / audio nutter introduced me to a delightful system based on ATC's, a classic Lenco and really engaging Unison research electronics. That and the red wine just did the trick

If you have some specific brands in mind let me know. The most amazing place in this city is Silvio Pomar's "McIntosh haven" in Liniers by the Vélez Sarsfield stadium. Incredible indeed. And then some, because he's got another flat / showroom nearby set up just for vintage stuff -the stock of Sansui, Sony ES, JBL etc is borderline dementia.

For more consumer type products I'd recommend Hi Track run by a good friend of mine, Christian Zoja. It's in Belgrano up on Cabildo Avenue.
Thank you very much,...exactly the info I was looking for in prep for my next time in-country between family visits in and around the city before we head south to Mar del Plata!

When exactly would this be? I believe Silvio was in Binghamton last week (can't wait for him to bring in the MA-9000's!) but he should be back here by now.

That place of his -which we Argies call "the Birds's Nest" or La Pajarera- is something you cannot, I think there is so much amplification there as to play a war CD and have the people of Chile -some 2,000 miles away- surrender!

Final dates are still being chosen; my wife and I head there at least once a year together and often times 2x with the 2nd before around Christmas and New Years to be with family and grab some beach time in M.d.P. I'll shoot you a private message when we get closer to the dates. Thanks!

By the way,...there is an audiophile with an AMAZING collection of vintage gear and speakers in a very interesting place in the suburbs of Bs.As. He goes by dantechoi on 'another forum'. Will not post a link here of course; have you run across him in your audio travels?

Beaches -so many better, cleaner, safer than Mardel buddy! Have you crossed the pond to Uruguay?

La Mansa in Punta del Este is something you and the missus would probably enjoy more. I think you could even stay at Casapueblo (an incredible building right by the sea which was made and inhabited by a top, top painter by the name of Carlos Páez Vilaró, which is now a museum and doubles up as a hotel), I have and it's such a beautiful introspective experience! For a moment one could think that one's in Santorini (Greece) or something

Yes I know who Dante is. His associate, Adrián, lives across the street from here. They do have some serious, serious systems indeed. Adrián is in love with Wilsons, for Dante (rich guy!) there is no limit really, last I heard he wasn't fully satisfied with his statement Clearaudio TT and was going even higher up in the chain.

But anyway, if you think Dante's collection is a good one, wait until you go to Silvio Pomar's with me. That place is just beyond believe, with the exception of Cartucho The Dog, everything in that flat is audio electronics and speakers. If you've been to Tokyo and gone to one of their audio shops inside the malls / department stores, this is as crazy as those!

A couple of members here (say mati1979 or Guillermo up in Nordelta) have pretty good systems too. Mine is far more modest but anyway there is a group of people here enjoying the hobby, 2-3 good fora and a number of the events. In fact I think if you guys came at some point in December you'd probably have the opportunity to attend the audio fair. It's held every year around those dates in the San Telmo area.

We have not made it across to Uruguay as we always have alot of stops for family and then an apartment in M.d.P. The main beaches there are too crowded and not as nice. We generally go abit north of El Faro and beyond up to Chapamadal (sp?). We also hit Pinamar, Mar Chiquita, Mar de Ajo, and that area for family time and stopovers.

We will definitely make it over to Uruguay soon though per our more recent comversations. Thanks!

Chapadmalal yes.

If you go that route (Pinamar, Mar de Ajó etc) then you have Mar de las Pampas, Mar Azul etc but the most virgin and soothing to me is ORENSE. Do stop by if you get a minute.

Having said that, again La Mansa in Uruguay is much nicer plus the virgin beaches in Rocha very special too (some of them don't even have electricity or a decent antenna for your phone to transmit/receive).

Back to the topic, in Chile if you go up north there are very nice beaches in La Serena (also the way there from Santiago to LS, the whole journey to get there) is nice as you have 20+ vineyards to the side of the motorway. Stopping there for some red wine and local delicatessen is a must. Further north you've got Iquique although the beaches aren't as nice.

If you and the missus are coming to Buenos Aires you need to let me know and we'll take you to my favourite steakhouse. Their "baby beef" is like a baby sumo wrestler or something
