Thanks a lot Kal, I will get the 103. More than the $ savings I would not have been able to fit the 105 as my rack space is limited as well.
Cheers,
Sid

Yes, that is right. The MC 1 digitizes all inputs which bothers me when I think about it but never in normal use . It is not on my current upgrade path.

Seems like a 103 works for me if I keep it focused on its primary purpose which is as a video source. I use that system for background music depending on what is happening upstairs. Will save my $ for better sources for the 2 channel system.

Thanks all.

I have had the same question. I already have the W4S DAC2 so I don't need the analogue DAC on the Oppo. I also don't own an SACD.

Ideally here's how I'll connect my Oppo>

I like the idea of using the 5 channel analogue out (using the OPPO to decode 5.1 from blu rays vs. my AVR and future Preamp/processor) especially if it adds to the soundstage and if the Oppo would do a better job. No need for inputs into the Oppo.

The Oppo would serve as a dedicated Home theater component where i'd want superior sound and video (video via HDMI into AVR, and audio either via HDMI or analogue into AVR). Since I don't need it as a CD transport or 2 channel DAC, which should I buy (is the difference as a multichannel DAC that great for movies in the upper units?).

No need for 3-D. For what it's worth, i'm watching movies on a 110" screen from a projector.

Thanks in advance.

Ha! I feel the same about my Meridian 861 but it is going out for a upgrade this week.

I just purchased a pre owned Oppo BDP-93 with the signature edition upgrade (from the Upgrade Company).

Anybody out there in "Oppo-land" familiar with this mod, and more specifically how this modded unit should stack up against newer stock units?

I plan to use it exclusively for blu rays in my home theater (120" projection screen).

I intend to run hdmi for audio and sound, unless analogue audio is supposed to sound better direct to my avr.
