So, black Friday thru Christmas should be a great time -- that is if they are still available as the line is being phased out as I type this -- i.e., they aren't likely to continue making them, as want to get rid of existing HX929 inventory to start the US new release fresh, if you understand where I'm coming from.

The bad news == they may not even be available/in-stock during the Black Friday period.

+1. If you really want a HX929 buy now else bide your time for the new model next April-May at RRP. Production has already stopped & stocks are likely to be exhausted before Christmas as is generally the case with the flagship model....

The 65" HX929 (or KDL65HX925 as we have here) is the best panel TV Sony has made to date.

KDL65HX925 for our Asia Pacific market is no longer available! That's it until the next model.

We may be lucky to see the 65HX950 at Christmas, so if you want to spend the premium $, Santa may deliver.

Don't even glance at a Samsung, if you want a panel to last more than 3000hrs with confidence. I warn you.

There are small differences. The 65" is better built & I believe has a slightly better panel hence the longer warranty period. The 65" does not have that cumbersome RS232C appendage hanging off the back of the 55".

The best tweak for these TV's is to replace the stock power cord with something audiophile grade. It's tricky because Sony use a custom connector, so you will need that plug to terminate. Furutech FP-3TS20 braided with Techflex Flexo Conductive into a Shunyata Hydra Talos will give you blacker than black!

So make sure you don't get your wires crossed for anyone that has the desire to swap out the cheap arse lamp cord...Highly recommended tweak! (with power management level set to low for best result)!

Replacing the stock power cord is indeed a good move, if possible. I experienced improvement on my Pioneer Elite PRO-111FD when I went to a Wireworld Stratus power cord.

MyPal, prepress, vintage_tube, and all... you are really helping me a lot. Thank you. It seems that time and logic are steering me toward the 55" 929.

I notice the thread about the Oppo. I have a nice 2 channel seperates McIntosh system and a couple of good receivers including a Mac 4100 and some extra speakers. I am lost on television... but would I use the Oppo in combination with a receiver to get improved sound from the 929?

Possibly! You could use the new Oppo's DAC input (toslink from tv) assuming it does DSP besides LPCM & then go analog out into your ext.in of your receiver (with premium RCA cables for all channels). This is provided your receiver allows pure direct analog pass thru without wanting to do any further AD DSP processing. If your receiver can behave like a basic multi-ch pre-amp, you will bypass its DACS altogether permitting the Oppo to present all of it's magic.

Just noticed the new Sony XBR HX950's in 55 inch (XBR-55HX950) are now available & instock ($3499 down to $2999).

The 65 inchers are due out on/about 10/26/2012 and are priced in preorder from $5499 down to $4999 (Amazon has a release date of 10/17/2012 at a dollar less).

Looks like the 2013 spring release news is old news (was wondering what they had up their sleeve for Black Friday/Christmas this year & SB 2013). Now I (we) know.

Best

Bob

I made a few calls and discovered that the Sony points no longer expire... I can continue to collect them... no need to rush a purchase. Soooo, now I can look more closely at the 2013 models and maybe beyond.
I had enough points for a 55" Sony Bravia HX about a year and a half ago and I gave that Sony to my girlfriend. I watch it over there and she's pretty happy. Now I have almost enough points for another Sony 55" Bravia HX929 but because the points are not going to expire I think I am going to hold off on the 929 and collect a few more points and go for a bigger Sony.
I'm in Canada and the prices are higher. The 65" Sony HX929 is no longer available and the 55"er is almost done, too. They want $3500.00 for the 55 - 929 and that is with a $500.00 discount!
I am thinking that I am better off collecting more points and getting a bigger, newer Sony.
