Tell Dennis he has fantastic taste - Love that SRV album in the pic. I had the extreme pleasure to see SRV live. One of the best shows I have been to in my life ! Can’t wait to hear it with my new amp that he is building for me !

Straitwire, thanks for all the helpful info lately. I wish there was a "like" function in this forum, but oh well.

It's good to know you'll be around for the foreseeable future, for questions and repair.
Regarding what Dennis and you design and build, I know you mentioned not 845 amps right now. If you ever change your minds let me know

Bearcity built the cabinets for Dennis's speakers.
Bearcity also built himself a pair.
And here's yours truly building my pair of back horn loaded single driver loudspeakers.

Something that has always confused me about the Inspire SE EL84 amp is the driver tube. I purchased mine used, and of course, without a manual. The owner told me that the driver was a 6DJ8 and he included one. However I have chatted with other owners who said theirs had a 12AX7. The original Magnavox 196 used a 12AX7.

Dennis has experimented with a lot of driver tubes since this thing started. At one point a buddy gave him a big ol bag of 7308s pulled from Tectronix O-scopes and that may have got him started. But remember, nothing in the Inspire shop is a given.

Also, Dennis sent me a text clarifying the Inspire inspiration. And I quote...
" That the Inspire did in fact come from the Magnavox single landed clase SEP amplifier. It’s actually more of an inspiration from a teenage memory. 1963 my girlfriends father just bought a new Magnavox console. I’ll never forget listening to “stranger on the shore” on that new Magnavox Stereo turntable and dancing the night away in the basement with my girlfriend..."

Knowing Dennis, the music might have been swing or Cha Cha, but the dance he was really interested in doing was what they used to call "rockin' and rollin'"

About 20 some years ago, I was able to purchase 16 Amperex JAN 6922 and JAN 7308 from a Naval Supply depot. They were stocked as replacement tubes for those Tectronix oscillators. Got them very cheap.

This guy had gone to the depot's clearance sale. They had 55 gallon barrels packed full of those Amperex tubes. He picked up several dozen but when he left there were still barrels of them, slated to go to the landfill. Another person told me a similar story. He didn't go to get those tubes, but filled his coat pocket with them.

I find these tubes to be great. In fact, I have one of those Amperex 6922 in my Inspire SE EL84 right now. When I bought it, it came with a Made in China National 6DJ8 which was terrible.

Thanks Comzee, I'll let you guys know when we introduce something new.

Lately Dennis is really into back horn loaded single driver loudspeakers and amps with volume pots...

Hey Jprod, check out this amp that Dennis is finishing up right now.
He says he'll probably be listening to Stevie Ray Vaughan tonight.
