Hasselblad's New Rip-Off - The Stellar
The Lunar was bad - selling a re-badged $1,000 Sony NEX-7 for $7,000
And, perhaps the new Hasselblad Stellar isn't quite so bad - only asking for a 4X price increase for working their magic (Adding their name to a Sony product) Introducing the new Hasselblad Stellar Which is a re-badged Sony Cyber-Shot RX-100 (which currently sells for $598 and has recently been replaced by the DSC-RX100M II) . . And, Here is the Hasselblad STELLAR which, with a name and color change, a little sheet metal work and a wood handle, hits the market at $1,995.00 . Well, Leica has been getting away with it for years, adding a red dot to a Panasonic Lumix camera and asking a lot more money for it, so why not Hasselblad? Does anyone else feel the same as I do, that Hasselblad is rapidly losing the reputation for integrity and quality that it has enjoyed all of its life?

Right down to the same T* lens, what a shame.

Subquestion, due to the globalization of consumer/prosumer electronics, do you feel it's hard to do the "handcraftmenship"' without establishing the brand? I.e. McIntosh is a stellar brand for capital investment, just ask the fund manager at fine sounds.
Hasselblad, very famous brand, but, in my opinion, licensing the design from a mass produced brand and reselling it shows a strategy to fool the brand name shoppers and weakening the brand's hardcore pro photog image. Cheap shot at consumers, especially in an age of information. Sent from my iPad using A.Aficionado |

As far as their reputation is concerned, it's not so much a loss in quality because their REAL cameras, like those in the H5D system are incredible. But their reputation for integrity has tarnished significantly.
The Lunar and Stellar, which are TOYS are just spiffed up garbage. As with so many products, there's a sucker born every minute. Last edited by GaryProtein; 09-10-2013 at 08:13 PM. |

Sorta like when Lexicon sold the $495.00 Oppo for $3,500.00.

Prior to this Hasselblad had been buying lens and sensors from Fuji. This company is a hollowed out log.

The toy rip-off cameras like the Stellar and Lunar they sell to non-pros is simply for name recognition in the public eye.
REAL professional photographers already know about their genuine system cameras. |
