Lots of opinions here , but the Rega P3-24's been a great table with the Elys cartridge and RB301 tonearm (the usual setup for this table). Pro-Ject, Music Hall, and Thorens (among others) compete in this price point/ price range.

Pro-Ject RM5SE is a great table for the money, add a Sumiko Blackbird and it becomes amazing. The Rega is highly regarded I understand, But owning the Pro-Ject I can attest to it's value. It replaced a Tweaked Thorens TD 125 MkII with the TP16MKI arm with Denon DL160.
Regards,
Jim

Pro-Ject TT's probably the best value for the money followed by Rega TT's.

+1 on the Rega P3-24. I certainly have been nothing but happy with mine.

Is Clearaudio overrated?

And no mention of McIntosh's new turntable.

Many people like that brand. The best way to find out is to go and listen for yourself and then make your own choice.

The good news is that there's lots of new toys out there right now for vinyl playback.

Hi, and welcome to the forum .

You'll find a lot of very helpful and knowledgeable people to help you, but you help us help you by giving us more information - putting the rest of your system in the signature might be a good start.

The answer to your question will vary dramatically based on the budget which, presumably, should be in line the rest of your system.

If you have a $3-5K system, then the best bang for the buck may indeed be a sub $1K turntable. Spending more would not give you more bang for the buck because the rest of your system may not be able to take advantage of it. But if you have a $20K system, then a sub $1K turntable may not be a wise choice as it will be outclassed by the rest of the system and its weaknesses may be exposed by the rest of the signal chain.

Without more information, your question would be akin to asking "what tires are best" without knowing the car you drive.

Alberto
