Schiit Bifrost Connection Question
Seems like there are some Bifrost users here on AA. I'm trying one now (w/o USB) and wondering how is everyone connecting the Bifrost to their computers? USB, digital, or Toslink? And impressions?

The Designer--Mike Moffat told me the Toslink is the preferred connection.
I have tried all and it is superior( Mac here) Des |

Thanks Des. Good to know you like the sound of toslink..
Mike's views on USB are pretty well known. However if you have/want 192/24 on a Mac, you're SOL without USB. And even though Mike has a very firm opinion, Many reviews shows USB to be equal or better. Even Jason Stoddard, Mike's partner puts weight behind their USB implementation. I'm going back and forth between the Bifrost and a Micromega MyDAC. Interesting so far. Definitely a different sound between the two. Much fuller on the MyDAC. Wonder how much of it is the cable and how much of it is the DAC... |

Ah well!-- Those Froggies like tend to like things more full bodied than Southern Californians . Iv'e owned Jadis Dacs and know the feeling!
Just gotta pray you get service when it's needed I know from painful experience. Good Luck, Des |

It is very rare that a Dac needs service, even when it is made by Frogs ..... I have owned a Micromega Dac Duo BS2 years ago and listened to Micromega players extensively and they never sounded full bodied to me but the Mydac got raves reviews and I forgot to try this one ! Keep in mind that Schiit DAC's are upgradeable, the DAC and analog output are on the same board. In a couple of years I expect the Bifrost and Gungnir owners will be offered upgraded boards that will constitute a genuine sonic improvement for a much smaller cost than replacing the whole device. This was a selling point for me in choosing the Gungnir.

Hi,
I´m also looking for a new DAC in order to play Spotify over my main system. I´ve tried a MicroMega MyDac and loved the overall sound of that DAC, but it had a major issue in my set up (iPad with Spotify Premium linked via AirPlay to AirPortExpress with Toslink to DAC and than via RCA from DAC to pre-amp) I got some complete random "static" ticks and clicks when playing music. After receiving a second MyDac the issue´s where still there, so now the Benelux distributor asked Micormega to have a look at my findings. In the mean time I still "need" a DAC so now I´m looking at the Schiit Bifrost as well. Did anyone here do a side-by-side comparison between the 2 DAC´s? Like I said I realy liked the MyDac sound, so I´m curious how the Bifrost stacks-up to the Micromega sound. |
