Anyone recognize this cable?

During my visit to the home of our good friend Dan (jdandy) on Monday, while we were looking at and discussing the many fine interconnects, power cords and speaker cables he's utilizing in his main system, Dan was showing me some of the Kimber Cable used to connect his speakers. This cable reminded me a bit of some cable used in my JBL B460 subwoofer.

When I acquired the sub, I noticed right off that the previous owner had replaced the stock JBL binding post with Gold plated WBT binding posts. In 2007, when I had to remove the 2245H driver for reconing, I realized that the internal hookup had been customized as well. It is a red, braided type of wire that has then individual strands soldered together at the ends, where the connection is made.

I wondered if anyone here could confirm whether the folks at Kimber make wire that would be used for internal speaker hookups like this, and if that is indeed what was used in my speaker system.

I've included a photo that I took while I hade the driver out for reconing. I've also included a picture of the nice WBT binding posts. The cable used to hook up the sub to my system is Audioquest Crystal.

Hi Pete,

Cant tell much as in the past, only Kimber makes braided cables then.

Just for laughs, it could be standard lamp cords braided together!

Ok, dont be angry. Just having a lighter moment.

If it sounded good, the cables must be good then.

Pete.......After seeing the spealer cable in the photo, I don't believe this is Kimber. All the Kimber Kable speaker wire I have ever seen is two colors. The original Kmiber speaker wire was a 4TC, and it was brown and black. The original 8TC speaker wire was blue and black. Since that wire is red, with no other color, I believe it may have come from another manufacturer, but I don't know who that might be.

Dan....okay, I guess it's somewhat a mystery; though I do consider myself fortunate that somebody upgraded the wiring and the binding posts, and did a pretty nice job at that.

In case anyone wonders what the deal is with all that blue tape on the baffle, that was a protective measure I used to protect the baffle while I worked the driver loose for reconing.
