I must say the 83SE is one amazing unit for the price. I am very optimistic about the 93 and 93SE. Oppo's biz model and distro channel is one to admire since we, the consumers, benefit the most with our strapped dollars.

I also like the way Oppo handles customer service and warranty repairs. My Oppo BDP-83SE developed a problem. Each time it was first energized, and the first disc played, about 5 to 10 minutes into the disc there would be a half second dropout of the sound. Once it happened it would not happen again on any other discs as long as the player was left energized. Turn it off, and the next time it was energized it would happen again like clock work. It was random as far as time, sometimes in the first 5 minutes it would happen, sometimes as far into a disc as 9 or 10 minutes. It was always a very quick mute, and then back, less than a full second. It was irritating me, so I contacted Oppo via email. Oppo issued an RMA#, and emailed a prepaid UPS shipping label immediately. They had the player two days, and emailed me that the BDP-83SE was on the way back to me, with a short apology for the Oppo needing service. I should have it back by next Tuesday. Now that is great service.

THAT is the way it's supposed to be done. Nordstrom service on a JC Penny budget. A lot of firms can learn from that one story there.

Here's a first review of the upcoming 93.

Hopefully, mine will arrive before turkey day. Or shortly thereafter.

Jeff.......The BDP-93 sounds like a feature packed Blu-ray player. The price can't be beat.

Any more info on the BDP 95 intro date? It's already in the Music Direct catalog with a Q1 arrival date.

Just a short follow up on my post above about my Oppo BDP-83SE warranty repair service. I have the player back in the home theater system, and it is working flawlessly. This was the most trouble free and painless repair service I have every experienced, and should be the model for all audio manufacturers to emulate. Without hesitation, and upon receiving my initial email about my problem, Oppo emailed me an RMA #, a prepaid FedEx shipping label, and instructions on returning the player to them, asking me to include at least one disc that I had the problem with. Not counting the shipping time going and coming, Oppo turned my player around in exactly two days.

When I received the player back I discovered a letter inside the box with a concise explanation of what Oppo tech had done. They explained that they isolated 3 error blocks from the NAND flash on the main board, and replaced the Power Board, Loader and Audio Board. In addition, they upgraded the firmware to their latest release, and returned the SACD disc I had included at their request. The BDP-83SE was spotless, and looked brand new.

A day after I had received the BDP-83SE, Oppo followed up with an email survey asking if I was pleased with the way my issues were handled. I'm not only pleased, I am ecstatic. This is a perfect example of how a company keeps customers loyal and happy. Way to go Oppo.

I am sorry, but I have owned both and the MCD500 is much better IMHO.
