There are variables from day to day but I feel we are the biggest variable as many have said.

I am so happy and content with my system these days that the biggest perturbation I might have is how light or dark the room is.

Call me content.

When it’s not moving you....walk away and for goodness sake don’t change anything!

Just some advice from your Uncle Ernie.

And really good advice, in my opinion. I learned that the hard way (as I suspect Uncle Ernie did). Changes made at the wrong time can really (#*&@# things up!

Sometimes were in the mood for different genres, or we don't wan't the big show, or we just wan't music-radio esp- on in the background as we multi task, and stress is the big thing as well. This can make us simply unavailable for music for a time, and it's normal. I could enjoy a Bose on holiday, well, maybe not quite! There is no way I would go looking to audition sound systems during the working week. It's stress/bad news all the way. I just hope I have the ears for the octaves if and when I retire.

This is a great topic!
I have had my listening experience immediately collapse when my girlfriend enters the room, makes an angry remark, and then storms off. It's like a light switch. The beautiful enveloping sound is suddenly collapsed into an incoherent mess.
Years ago when I played the string bass in youth symphony, I noticed that the instrument would sound warm and full some days, while other days it lost it's bottom end, becoming bright and scratchy. I always wondered if it was just my ears or if the instrument had really changed. I should have recorded it.

Often I have my best experiences when I'm not directly listening. I'm reading or working on something, getting lost in the moment.

Just goes to show the magnitude of the psychoacoustic phenomena and how our brains process things...

The alternate is the "quantum audio nirvana bubble" being burst by the intrusion

The quantum audio nirvana bubble stimulator is what somebody needs to invent! Then hifi will die. We'll all be blissfully listening to our cellphone speakers.

This whole thread is very interesting as I have thought the same thing. For me living in WI what I have learned is my system sounds better after dark or evening. I’ve come to rationalize the reason being cooler air is denser. Not sure if this makes any sense as I’m sure like all of you my home is temperature controlled but these systems are not perfect either. My system is in a basement almost completely surrounded by foundations and earth.

"The speed of sound is affected by temperature and humidity. Because it is less dense, sound passes through hot air faster than it passes through cold air. ... The attenuation of sound in air is affected by the relative humidity. Dry air absorbs far more acoustical energy than does moist air".

How much of that is actually relevant to our systems and temperature fluctuations that would be typically found in an indoor environment... I have no idea.

Default My Stereo Sounds Better & Worse At Time... Any Theories Why ?

Exactly what I posted a while back. There’s a difference in summer vs winter and there’s probably a difference on summer days when the air conditioning is on or not (humidity).
