It has indeed been an interesting discussion thus far. All I can really add that wouldn't turn into an amateur-hour (me being the amateur) physics discussion is that I hear a difference, at least with some cables, and that cable construction techniques that affect things like inductance, capacitance, etc., do seem to have a fairly solid basis in physics. I originally started in the "all wire is the same" camp, because my training taught me that this was the case. Now I'm more of the there are things our brains perceive when hearing a reproduced sound field that science hasn't learned how to measure/test for, at least not yet. And cables are one of the things that can affect those as yet unknown factors, for better or worse.
I'll also say that most cheap zip/lamp cord style speaker wire degrades pretty badly pretty quickly, which is why you can see it turn green over the course of a few months as chemicals in the insulation leech into the wire and contaminate it. So that's a good reason to avoid really cheap wire even if you don't hear any difference. I've even seen CL2/3 rated cable do this, so that alone is not an indication of quality. |

Believe!
I recently upgraded my amps from Classé CAM-350's to Classé CA-M600's. The 600's are very powerful (1200 watts into 4 ohms). They are just superb, detailed and musical but unfortunately I started picking up a hum in both amps and after having done some online research it turns out that large i.e. 2300 KVa transformers tend to pick-up errant DC in the lines. The whole system is on 20 amp separate breakers with hospital grade receptacles but I was using the cheap stock power cords that came with the amps. The amps is the only area of my system where I had not upgraded cables (The rest of the system is equipped with Cardas Golden reference cabling). On line I read about a wonderful cable "Pangea AC9 -Signatures" these things are huge and weigh a ton, when they arrived I plugged them and almost a week of constant listening later; they recommend 300 hrs of breaking-in. Guess what; the transient noise has totally disappeared! They already sound beautiful and airy,
