Completely Unfair

Today, I decided to replace the Supernova 6 Optical cable from my MS750 to my MCD1100 with a Platinum Starlight cable to see if there was a significant improvement.

The retail difference is $165 vs $2150 for a 1.5m run. As I said, "completely unfair"

I left both connected, so I could simply switch back & forth with the input knob of the MCD1100.

What I heard was really quite amazing, very noticeable improvement in detail, depth, and localization of instruments.

In the past, I have found little to no difference between a quality optical and a quality coax.

The Platinum cable line, is clearly on a different level; and it sounds this good right out of the box.

I thought some members would be interested to note my findings. Now I know why the Platinum Starlight cables are Wireworld's best seller.

Very interesting findings, thanks for posting. One would think that in the world of cables it would be the digital cables that would see the least benefit of meticulous design such as the Platinums simply because at the end of the day it's a digital signal not an analog one and thus less suspectible in theory to environmental interference, etc. so that makes your findings very informative and eye (or is it ear) opening.

Optical connection often has higher output/input jitter than coax rca. The difference can be several times as evidenced on oppo bd 83 player for example. 8 times higher jitter on toslink than rca on that model. Some prefer the higher jitter stating smoother presentation others will hear the lack of focus and information.

But all connections don't have the luxury of coax so toslink will have to do then..

Solid silver coax cables are where things starts to get really interesting (gold/platinum starlight) IMHO.
