Default Alexia 2 Pics

Saw a couple of Wilson Alexia 2 pictures posted on FB so thought I would share them. Can't wait to hear this speaker.

They sure do their reveals in slow motion. Kinda makes ya lose interest. I was personally watching their social media pretty closely for a week or two but got bored. I didn't even see this, so thanks.

Marc, Wilson is not going to post pics of protos in gelcoat. We have to complete Designer Proofs before we shoot pics. Those pics posted above were just completed today.

BTW the color is a new satin finish upgrade to debut on Alexia 2.

I didn't know that Wilson would even announce a new product before designer proofs were long since completed? If I'm not mistaken, other products were launched more quickly, starting with a video. I could be remembering wrong. Don't mind me, I'm just an impatient person in general 😁

Designer Proofs are the last step before actual production. Development of all design aspects/details are done before that but not in suitable form for photos. The time frame varies with product.

As for being impatient, if anyone has a really good reason to be, it is you.

I'm trying to figure out.... how is the speaker any different appearing from v1?

I think what Marc is saying is that before, when Wilson would release a speaker, it was not this delayed here's a small pic, here's another small pic, here's some teaser info. I think I also noticed that lately since the WAMM, there have been teaser on teasers.

But it is what it is.

Are you meaning visually, electrically, or sonically?

I think he means visually...it does look identical to me. But I guess maybe if they were side by side we'd see small differences.

Indeed the outward differences appear small and are, relative to the internals.

So here is a description of what looks different on Alexia 2 starting at the floor and working upward:
  • The larger mechanical diode and spike are from the Alexx
  • The front woofer cabinet baffle is raked 3 degrees
  • The woofer grille is squared off on the bottom.
  • The curve on the sides is softened slightly.
  • On the back, the screwed in metal plate that covers the resisitors/crossover is replaced by an easily removable glass cover ala Alexx.
  • The port is centered on the rear panel and edges rounded over. Hardware is flush mount.
  • Spike tracks and stairstep are isolated by W material inserts.
  • Where cables exit the bass cabinet to connect the upper modules, there is the same stainless steel strain relief as is used in WAMM and ALEXX.
  • The midrange cabinet is more rounded with very slightly different dimensions.
  • The tweeter enclosure is considerably more rounded on the edges.
  • The spike track in the top of the tweeter has twice as many positions over the same range.

The most important changes are internal, though certainly many of these external things have a direct affect on the sound too.
