countingbackwards, welcome aboard.

I would really listen to the speaker to preamp/amp pairing before buying if I could. Or I would wait until one of the Shindo experts here opines. Speaker match and system synergy seem to be conditions precedent to really obtaining the Shindo magic.

countingbackwards... The nice thing about Shindo preamps is that you will be able to enjoy a good deal of the Shindo sound without having to completely overhaul your system (or your bank account). Is a end to end Shindo system better - sure. But a Shindo preamp is a great place to start. I sometimes think the talk of "Shindo Synergy" unnecessarily keeps people away from the line. I started with a Shindo Preamp and the improvement in my system was striking. I later added an amp and accessories but the preamp is what got me hooked. Get a Shindo preamp first. If you catch the Shindo bug then your next step will be worrying about matching between a Shindo amp and speakers. Until then you are fine.

Yup - preamp first. I love my new Aurieges -L. It is playing very well along side my MC275.

Default reply to counting backwards

Here's my 2 cents.
If you already own a tube power amp that mates well with your veritys, then buying a shindo pre is a good way to go. however, if you first have to go out and buy a tube amp like a vtl to go with your veritys, then sell your veritys and get a shindo aurieges and a montille, or whatever you can afford and then buy shindo compatible speakers. trust me, in the long run this will save you money since eventually you will get curious and want to try a shindo power amp and you will then have to ditch your veritys so you may as well do it now and take the money you get for veritys and get a higher eff. speaker.

Agreed, although I think the Veritys are great speakers, their impedance doesn't match well with Shindo amps, despite them being rated as being quite efficient. So we are back to the usual subjects, Devore, Tannoy, single driver HE speakers etc.

What's an HE speaker, please. Yes, I googled it and didn't come up with anything. (Except this, which is a Tannoy speaker http://audio-heritage.jp/TANNOY/spea...nberry_he.html.) Thanks.

Thanks for the interesting advice guys. I'm not really looking to change speakers - I really do enjoy the Verities - they're really the perfect speaker for my listening room and musical preferences, what with their sweet, smooth, extended sound and relatively slight dimensions. Also, there is a Shindo that should match the Parsifals quite well...I just dont have the funds for it (a common problem with Shindo it seems!) - the CC80.

What I'm trying to do is maximize their abilities to bring out the complex textural elements of recordings better than I can presently with the Ayre integrated.

I have on loan right now an Aurieges MM along with a pair of VTL MB125. One thing I could tell after a short bit of listening...great texture and layering of the midrange that I'm looking for is present. Can't really tell yet if the frequency extension on either end is what i want - that takes more time to verify, I need to listen a lot to hear if something at the frequency extremes is wrong. So far, things seem quite "right".

One thing that seems for sure...the phono stage in the Aurieges is incredible. Absolutely dead quiet when no record is playing, quieter than even any solid state phono that I've heard!

Think something like Altec 604s (somewhere around 99db/1watt/1meter). Some might put a Devore speaker in this category but I don't. There is no common definition out there.
