Love most Beck albums... "Sea Change" is one of my favorites... agree with the Vanessa Fernandez pick... "Use Me" is a fantastic album. I also enjoy her second album, maybe even more; "When The Levee Breaks", in my view is the best cover of Zeppelin songs ever... but with Vanessa's unique twist and voice, oh what a voice!

Not many recent albums catch my interest; have been more successful finding classic jazz and other older albums of interest vs. newer material. That said, a few stand out:
The Blasters - Fun on Saturday Night Rolling Stones - Blue and Lonesome and by far #1: St. Paul & The Broken Bones - Half the City

Bowie - Blackstar
Wolf Alice - My Love Is Cool Neko Case - The Worse Things Get.... Big Grams - Big Grams --- the best rap album I've heard in 15+ years and I don't like rap, so making this list is something Courtney Barnett - sometimes I sit |

I had further thoughts about this topic and have another 5 recent albums to add. Many of you on this board have been listening to this same collection. For myself, these 5 have a special gravity not only in the lyrics, but in the compositions that pulls the listener into the moment. Each album has a little melancholia that allows the listener to experience a deeper connection with the emotion of the music, but not to dark to be distracting.
Again in no particular order: 1. Kurt Vile --- b'lieve i'm goin down... 2. The War On Drugs --- Lost In The Dream 3. Beck --- Morning Phase 4. Neko Case --- The Worse Things Get... 5. Hope Sandoval And The Warm Intentions --- Until The Hunter

That War On Drugs album "Lost in The Dream" is fantastic. One of the best albums of the last several years.

Define "pop". Phantogram's - Three was somewhat pop in my eyes and I really liked it. So was Borns - Dopamine. |

By far in my top five of the five years! It's stunning the whole LP. Saw them live too for a taping of Austin City Limits. I'll have to think about the other four for this list! Mitch
