Sure. They are different but you can have them cohabit. Then you can decide for yourself.

Simple answer: yes.

I found Roon much easier to use than JRiver. Like someone said, you will soon be a convert.

And don’t worry about handling ISO files. Most folks don’t use those files anyway and in any case there are easy ways to convert them into files that can be read by a Roon.

Except I’m finding a number of files converted from ISO to DSF wasn’t readable by Roon - but worked fine on JRiver and Audirvana

JRiver is a monster when it comes to file support. It does everything. ISO SACDs, full CD FLAC with cue splits etc.

Roon is a bit more of a pain when it comes to file support. I had to split my SACD ISO rips to individual DSF files - and even then, I just found out a month ago that there is a list of files that Roon couldn't read (it is tucked away in one of the Settings menus) and these included DSF files. The same files played fine in Audirvana Plus v2 and JRiver so I know they work.

You should be fine if the file formats you use is the lowest common denominator for JRiver and Roon. It does mean using apps like XLD and ISO2DSD to convert any of the aforementioned files

Interesting. I will have to look into my ROON settings later today and see what files I have had issues with. I assume you have had ROON rescan your NAS to see if the second time was a charm?

I have the same files on my home NAS and on a Mac Mini at work. Both with same issues

I just checked and other than some useless .MP3s, the only important track that didn’t load is a DSF track from Beck’s Sea Change SACD. I will fix that later. From the total of tens of thousand tracks, thats not too bad.

I used ISO2DSD to convert my ISO files to DSF files. All my DSF files play perfectly in Roon.

Same for me I haven't had a single dsf file out of thousands that wouldn't play.

Agreed. OTOH, I have had more than a few that won't extract this way.
