Default Mytek unveils the Brooklyn DAC+ at RMAF

As reported by The Computer Audiophile at Computer Audiophile, Mytek has unveiled a brand new Mytek Brooklyn DAC+ at the 2017 Rocky Mountain Audio Fest.

Priced at $2195.00, the Brooklyn DAC+ now incorporates the new ESS Sabre 9028PRO DAC chipset is said to provide even more convincing digital PCM, DSD and MQA playback and streaming as well as state of the art M/C, M/M Phono stages. The Brooklyn DAC+’s new headphone circuitry performance has raised the bar on performance and now rivals many dedicated headphone amplifiers.

The new Mytek Brooklyn DAC+ is scheduled to begin shipment October 16, 2017.

Dan, is the Brooklyn a delta-sigma DAC?

Personally, I've found I prefer AKM D/S DAC chips to ESS Sabres, though the A/Q Dragonflys sound nice.

Thanks and cheers,
Stephen

Stephen.......I don't know if the Brooklym is a delta-sigma DAC. I have experience with both ESS and AKM DAC chipsets. Presently I enjoy the AKM 32-bit AK4495S DAC's that are in my Esoteric K-01X. I listen to my headphone rig using a Wyred 4 Sound DAC2 with the ESS Sabre32 ES9018 chipset and enjoy it as well. I have not heard the newer ESS 9028Pro DAC chipset that is in the new Mytek Brooklyn DAC+ so have no valid opinion on it at this time. I suspect it is a step up from the 9018 chipset.

Thanks, Dan, my friend. I will dig around a bit and see what I can find out. I've heard some of the Esoterics and they are amazing. Even their universal disc players were amazing. So much of this has to do with the analog output sections, its hard sometimes to distinguish the effect the DAC chip has. I was originally a fan of ESS Sabre DACs until my Schiit DACs with their AKM chipsets convinced me that I preferred AKM D/S DAC chipsets.

I just received my Schiit Gungnir upgraded to a multibit R2R ladder DAC, (Gungnir MultiBit aka "Gumby") and it has impressed me greatly, especially with their new Gen 5 USB implementation. This is an amazingly natural-sounding DAC for $1250. It uses a military-spec DAC, four precision Analog Devices AD5781BRUZ, not the usual Sabre ESS or AKM DAC chips used in audio components. I'd never heard mulitbit DACs (non D/S Dacs) before, but they combine incredible speed, detail, articulation, resolution, air, spaciousness along with a notably increased naturalness and "sweetness" and musicality that I have simply have not experienced previously in D/S DACs.The one that comes the closest I remember was the Bricasti M1.

Dan,
Will combining a music server such as an Aurrender N100H and the Brooklyn+ DAC provide the full MQA experience (complete unfold)? I'm not sure whether the Brooklyn+ needs the 1st unfold to be done by the server or not. I'm a newbie when it comes to MQA so if my question is dumb one, please forgive me. It's my understanding that the Aurrender servers don't alter (1st unfold) the MQA file.
I'm interested in anyone's thoughts of what may be better, the N100H and the Brooklyn+ vs the Aurrender A10. I think I would lean toward the N100H and the Brooklyn+ because of their versatility (headphone output, and more digital inputs, analog inputs) but having full MQA capability is important to me and I'm not sure this pair provides it.

smatsui324.......The new Mytek Brooklyn DAC+ is certainly a unique and versatile audio component. The DAC+ also features the upgraded ESS ES9028 Pro DAC, improvements to the analog attenuator circuit, improved Phono Stage transparency, and a new dual mono analog path.

I am a relative newbie when it comes to MQA, too. The best way to confirm whether the Aurender N100H music server provides the first MQA unfold is to contact support@aurender.com with that question. Let us know what you discover.

I have no first hand experience with this but I believe the Brooklyn does everything needed to fully unfold MQA
