Default AV8802a XLR Pin Issue

I have been considering the Marantz AV8802a for my home theater. In checking out speaker configurations, I found this description on page 46 of the online manual. "The PIN arrangement in this device uses the European method (1 GND, 2 HOT, 3 Cold). In the USA method 2 is COLD and 3 is HOT.

"When connecting a device that utilizes the USA type of PIN arrangement, replace the 2 and 3 plugs on one side of the balanced cable."

This confounds me. Why would they sell an non-standard product in the USA? What does this mean in the real world of using this processor?

I don't think you have anything to be concerned about, since the current US standard also uses pin 2 as HOT. You can see the current standard and a discussion about the issue here (under the "Technical usage information" heading), which clearly states "The pin 3 "hot" convention is now obsolete but is still found on vintage equipment." Hope this helps!

Yes, that does help. It also seems like Marantz would be a little clearer in the manual.
