Luckily, another cable I have on hand is long enough to reach the sub, so I have a mix matched pair of XLR cables feeding the f110v2. Should have time this weekend to get around to tweaking the sub parameters when the kids and wife are awake. Just now played a snippet of a Melody Gardot track. Wow. This sub packs quite a wallop, even at relatively low gain. Much work ahead.

After thinking about this some more, I may just go with one cable for a while. The only down side, that I can figure, is losing 3 dB by going with a single connection.
I can't imagine there is much, if any, true stereo bass below 80 Hz or at least not much that I can ever discern. By running 2 XLR cables, I would gain back 3 dB and the added benefit of recovering any "lost" bass via the left channel information not being provided to the sub ...... But again not sure how significant that would be. I mean I never find myself being drawn to one main speaker or the other with regards to bass unless it is some wacky mix ... Come to think of it the Beatles have some tracks like this with Paul's bass entirely in one channel and drums in other. Guess I don't listen to much music mixed like that. This sub will provide all the additional low end heft I will need, even giving up the 3 dB. Gonna run with it as is for a while and see where I end up. Now that I better understand the way JL subs work, I believe my original advice was spot on based on my preferences and game plan. Just need to be aware is bass is panned hard to one channel I will be at the sole mercy of my main Sophia 3 bass response. So, any JL users here use only 1 XLR channel to connect their single sub. Or is everyone using 2 subs????!

You have a very serious system, and it would be a shame to compromise on something as trivial as an interconnect. The JL subs are designed to accept left/right channel from a stereo pre. Why would you take a chance on compromising the potential of your subwoofer, when all you have to do is buy another interconnect. It does not have to be expensive either. I bet a stereo set from your local pro shop will produce better sound than a single Wireworld. Just my 2 cents. "Risk management" Btw; you have a very cool system. |

Good points. No doubt audiophilia nervosa will prevail and I will get 2 matching cables --- mix matched pair at the moment --- guess my main worry was actually damaging sub by hooking it up "off label", i.e. Single cable via stereo preamp. Someday I will either buy another 7 m cable or more likely send back the WW 7 meter cable and split into (2) 3 to 3.5 meter cables.

for connecting subwoofers I use these cables that I buy from proaudiola.com
1-M3080-XLRF-XLRM-1 XLR-Female to XLR-Male Cable | Made from Mogami 3080 & Neutrik Gold Connectors [MG-3080 Cable Length:45 Feet] [XLR-Female Ring:Black] [XLR-Male Ring:Black] it's more than enough in my opinion for the signal that needs to carry Last edited by krustycat; 02-05-2016 at 06:04 PM. |
