My understanding is that Trent Suggs has decided to put out a line of less expensive entry level products.

The problem rears its head when the customer base has shrunk to such an extent that the number left is too small to support the business...This usually comes about because the cost to value equation is so out of balance that the customer base fails to the see the value anymore...!!
IMHO, we will be seeing a lot of this very real customer reserve in the high end industry in the very near future ( maybe we already are, and the manufacturers have not cottoned on to it yet??)
I believe it is a matter of product focus as the ARC customer base has always been small and in real adjusted dollars the equipment is less expensive than it was in the 1970s. In the past the design esthetic took third place behind the electronic circuit’s sonic quality and the materials required to provide robust service life including repairability.

ARC has always been pricey, but I think their pricing was not outrageous compared to the competition. Now whether that continues, remains to be seen.

In general, I believe that the pricing of much of high end gear in the last few years has skyrocketed. We now have $400-$800K+ speakers, many amps priced in excess of $100K and even turntables that are priced in the $200-$400K range, I think that is telling us something.

There is no ceiling on the price of in-demand luxury goods. None.

That's part of ARC's appeal! You'll be able to reliably enjoy your Ref40 for as many years as you like. That's l-o-n-g term satisfaction.

Luxury goods are always in tandem with all other asset bubbles. The last decade brought cheapest interest rates in history with virtually free money and corporate leveraging beyond wildest imagination. Stock market at an all time high with valuations through the roof. What can possibly go wrong?

Of course the increased global interest in high end audio also spurred on all kinds of demand for exotic as well as value oriented items. The sky is no longer the limit. To the moon we go!

If one believes it will never end... one should not read history books.

On a forum for high end audio equipment the question of how much money can be asked for a given piece of equipment is effectively moot, since participating members have already, to varying degrees, accepted a level of cost far above what the vast majority of people would consider reasonable. This was true when people listened to transistor pocket radios on AM and today when people listen on iPhones.
