Default Burmester 001 cd player

The above mentioned player was in production from year 2000 to 2009, almost a decade. Has it been the same inside all that time, or has it been upgraded by factory, without any notice? I read that transport was changed, from philips pro, to pro 2, but I am interested to know if somebody has some other information? The reason I ask is because I had a model from 2007, with serial number starting with 589, and now I am preparing to buy it for second time, but this time the player from last year of production,2009.with serial number 700 and something. Is it the same sounding cd player?

I don't believe Burmester still updates this model.
Maybe you'd better go for a 089, the newer CD player in the Top Line.

Thanks, Bart, but I was asking something else, maybe my english is not clear enough.
The 001 is out of production, of course that it cant be upgreded. I was curious to know were there any upgrades during its production ? I belleive that 089 is better, but its cost is higher, in second hand. With all this marketing and industry talk about computer audio, I guess that prices of cd players will fall, but untill than I could live with 001.

I fully agree with you bart. It is possible to to a bargin purchase for a cd player that is really good. My 001 are from one of the last batch made in Berlin with serial number 8xxxx.

Sorry, but cannot help you with the upgrade history of the model ;-)

Default Repair 001 or upgrade to 089?

Hi all,

Hoping for some guidance please.

My 001 stopped reading discs for the second time, and Burmester says that several things must be replaced - including the drive, belt, lens, and even puck! Together with repairing my 038 the quoted cost will be almost USD 6,000. Ouch!

Should I upgrade to a 089 for another USD 20,000 (Double Ouch!), given that CDs are heading fast for obsolescence, or bite the bullet and repair it? My main source is still the 931, through the 077 and 911 mk3 and VA The Music. Not really keen on servers like the 111.

Grateful to hear your views please.

HM

Hi HM.

I've owned the fantastic 001's for about 6 years. Great musical performance at all. The 089's is an evolution of the 001's and sonically It is better in all regards. Of course the said improvement in sound has a cost and only you can finally take the right decision. He is called the baby 069's. The 089, being use the X-AMP II Technology will match perfectly with your superb preamp 077. If you like the sound of the 001's you can decide to fix it. After Burmester will replace the needed parts, you can live with many years to come with beauty sound and your 001 will be like new one.

HM, first of all, welcome to AudioAficionado!

Good advice from our Burmester aficionado Rocco.

But... you have a very good system.
I think it deserves a 089.
They do show up second hand from time to time.
E.g. there is one for 8500€ on audio-markt.de at the moment.
I already bought 2 Burmester devices on that site, and I'm very happy with them.

Another possibility, that will save you some cash: a 102, which gets splendid reviews and bests the 001 and the 061 ("Stereo", a decent German magazine).

Thanks Rocco,Bart and Ivan, especially for the warm welcome and waving smiley!

I'll check out the 102, but I suspect I will have to bite the bullet and repair the 001.

Much as I would love to match the 077 with the 089, I do not listen to CDs or the system enough to justify the investment (sharing the hall with wife and kids!). My main source is the 931, especially since sunny and small Singapore will stick to FM and not go DAB, and I can leave it on the classical station all day. I am still not attracted to the convenience of digital servers - still like the touch and feel - also film cameras, steel bikes and analog watches - yes I'm not young:-) and I have all the usual vices.

I've been lurking here for a while - since I got bitten by the Burmester bug some years back, and I continue to pay the price!

Thanks again.

HM

The 931 is an awesome source!
I'm surprised every time when I fire it up (every day!).
