I am thinking about Dynaudio - either Evidence Temptation or Confidence C4's. It will be very difficult to better the XRT1K's. Listening to them is pure joy.

Default Loved My XRT-1k 's

I had the priviledge of owning a pair of XRT-1K's for close to 2 years. They were phenominal and I felt I would stick with them for many years. Then I had an opportunity to sell my 1K's back to the dealer in trade for a pair of 2K's. The "disease struck" and I had to have them. The big difference was the sound stage which was night and day, however if you are considering the 2K, make sure you have a room at least 25' x 25', a wife that cannot see well or has a pasion for sky scrapers, and own a MEN 220. If all this comes together you have got it made. I will keep these speakers for life and once I pass on they are will perfect coffins for both my wife and I.

It does not get much better than the 2K.

I had it measured when I first set them up; I can't remember now. It's nearly a perfect triangle, though.

VES, I have a couple of questions. How did you settle on the 1K's since there are so many speakers that can be had for their price? Second, does any 2K owner employ a subwoofer as part of their two channel 2K system? Just asking because I've never heard or seen the 2K and wonder about the bass.

Charles... I have two sets of XRT2K's and use a pair of Gotham's with both of them. I like my Bass authoritative too!

The 2K's have six 12" woofers which in my opinion give more than enough bass and that is why I suggest using a MEN -220 with these speakers. However, bass is like horse power in a car, you can never have enough as long as you have control of it. The 1K's had sufficent bass, however the 2K's have more than enough, however your room set up is the critical factor.

Hi Charles, The XRT2k's are not as musical as the 1k's but they are better for theater. I have tried tri-amping them with 1.2kw's for the woofers with the same signal as the mids and highs, adding JL subs to the above configuration, and running the woofers with the 1.2kw's and a sub crossover. I didn't need the JL's when I ran the XRT2k's with the sub crossover. You could use the MEN220 instead of the sub crossover as well. I don't have a MEN220 because I didn't want the loss in sound quality. Just as the strength of chain is only as good as the weakest link and a $5 O ring can bring down a billion dollar shuttle, the sound path to our ears is only as good as the weakest component. The DAC's in the MEN220 aren't as good when they reconvert the signal after it comes out of the MCD1100.

Regarding the subwoofer enclosure of the 2K, is it subdivided into separate compartments for each woofer or is it one continuous box? If it is one continuous very large aluminium box, what is its resonance frequency since it is acoustic suspension? By the way, since I showed my system, I have added a Z-Stabilizer, now both my 1.2KW's are protected and power factor corrected. Also, I have added 10 echo tunes to my room and rearranged a couple of passive room damping devices, finding a novel much more useful way to employ them. The improvement in sound is very noticeable. Just tweaking along with you guys!
