Hello respected members
Joined a few days ago looking for some insights into the differences between the E-650 and E-800 other than more power.
I own a pair of ruthlessly revealing and transparent speakers (WHT PR2) that are almost intolerant on solid state gear, they fling at my face any imperfection in the circuit or any sub par cables or components down the line. with the wrong amp, DAC, etc. could sound, hard, harsh, cringe bright, but it seems to like well designed Class A amps, and cant deal with the heat of ,tubes any more, living in the tropics, So. FL. trying to get rid of my Synthesis Celebration monoblocks (8Watt SET) and go into a good sounding one box solution is my goal. The amp should not run as a room heater a must in FL. I can do really well with a 30 wpc like the E-650 but i can see many members upgraded into E-800 hence the curiosity, Any advise and help will be greatly appreciated. |

Mr Triodo, I imagine you are a GM, good to meet you here!
Masterlu, I'm in doubt between an E-480 and an E-800, my preference would be the E-800, but I live in Brazil, very common to have whole months with daily temperatures of 89F (32C) please, in your opinion, when in operation, what temperature does the E-800 reach? I have Tannoy Westminster Royal HE, would you like to hear opinions from someone with E-800 playing Tannoy? |

Consider the E-650. Like a middle child - oft forgotten, but has all of the good traits.

My friend MrTriodo speaks wonders of the E-650, I appreciate your advice, but as it will be a one-time purchase, I will focus on the E-800!
Have you already measured the temperature on the top cover of the E-800? (after an hour on and playing) |

I would not even consider it hot. Certainly nothing like my A-250’s.

I agree. The heat issue is overrated. I live in Texas and the heat it put out was completely unnoticeable to me or my electric bill. I wouldn't let that deter you at all.

What Heat!
I've owned the following E-560, E-650 and E-800 they run warm at best not hot. Pass Labs runs very warm to hot, Luxman L-509AX II runs much warmer than a E-800. I think its blown out of proportion not to worry. Regards AJ |

I stayed a few days with a Luxman 590AX, I didn't find it too hot!
Guys thank you for the answers! * Last edited by Nascimento; 09-06-2020 at 09:36 PM. |
