Thanks guys for the very detailed and generous responses!

Yes, all clear in my mind now - will be installing all new PC's in the new listening room. Although it will be different altogether, I look forward to hearing these in the 'new' system set up and noting improvements.

Cheers

Matt

Hey Matt,

Just a note added as an addendum: I just swapped the NR-V12 on my DAC for an NR-V10 and....its WAAYY better on the DAC than the V-12. If you can stretch your budget another $100 to get the NR-V10 for whatever component will function as your DAC...just do it. It's notably better...across the board for any and all audio attributes one cares to consider. And way more than "$100 worth" better, too.

I shoulda done this months ago. Doh!

I just came across this thread and have a question. I was on Shunyata's website looking for the difference between the standard Venom HC and the HC v2. I didn't see anything, unless it's the use of DTCD which, I'm guessing, the original HC doesn't? Or did I miss something?

I have original Venom HCs on both my power conditioner and the voltage regulator it's chained to. Was wondering how much of a difference there would be and the nature of that difference. Thanks.

Yes I just checked the website, and you are right. We did a very bad job of describing the cable.

The Venom-HC v2, while fairly inexpensive, has some pretty impressive features. The first being that it is has 10 gauge OFE (used to be called OFHC) copper. And it has pure copper contacts in the IEC and a high copper content in the AC plug contacts. And the biggest difference between it and the v1 is the fluorocarbon dielectric insulation material.

All of these features provide a cleaner and more pure sound quality with exceptional dynamics. The Venom HC v1 is still a great cable for its price. We are just turning the dial up with the v2 version. If you have watched our evolvement over years, you will have noticed that this is an ongoing theme of constant product improvement punctuated with technological advancements.

I will have our guys work on the website. Thanks for pointing it out.

Hi Caelin - if you're up for just one more question

For someone looking to improve on simple stock power cords, can you elaborate on the (expected, audible) difference between the HC-V2 cable and its VENOM counterpart in the new NR series?

I 'get' noise reduction intellectually, just want to make the best $ decision since I have a 8 components to power in the living room... and then a half dozen more in the office system...

If you were on a budget, is there a logical order as to which components to install standard HC-V2 vs. NR PC's? In my case, all plugged into dedicated lines, no power conditioning.

Cheers - and thanks again for being patient with my questions!

Matt

The answer is largely dependent upon the power distributor/conditioner you are using. If you are using one of our conditioners that has good NR capabilities and good DTCD performance then I would favor the Venom-HC and Venom V14 for best price to performance.

If you using a multiplex outlet or a relatively simple power strip - then I would favor the Venom NR Series for best performance.

Even if you are using one of our conditioners (Delta D6, Alpha A12 or Denali) the Venom NR cables will still outperform the Venom HC. But that at a significantly higher total cost when you are talking about several power cords
