Those are not any specific brand of cable that I recognize, but I would guess that they're a DIY design consisting of a pair of twisted coaxial cables. Such a design would likely be terminated with the + and - signals each going down the center conductor of one coax cable with the two cable braids connected together to the ground terminal of the XLR connectors.
While an AES/EBU digital cable should be designed to match the intended 110 ohm impedance, this implementation will not due to a lack of precision in such a hand twisted design. The spacing of conductors and dielectric would have to be made with a much higher level of precision than can be achieved by hand twisting two cables. I'm not saying that it can't sound good in a specific application, but it will not be operating as intended without the precise 110 ohm impedance loading to result in lowest possible jitter and optimized timing of the digital signal. |
