OSX and MS750/300

I know I have asked this before - but I still keep hoping for a solution.
The older versions of the Mac(Apple) operating system supported mounting the MS750/300 drives to copy files via SMB protocol.

Somewhere along the way, during the Apple OS updates/upgrades support for this mode of file transfer was abandoned.

I currently have an older Macbook with an non-updated OS that still enables me to do this - but hardly a durable long-term solution.

My current day-day laptop - a Macbook Air running Mavericks does not allow me to do copy digital files from my Mac to my Mc.... hence my question -

Has anyone figured out a durable, easily, and low cost means of copying files - much like we were able to do previously. Buying a PC is not an option that I want to take and I have tried a variety of assorted shareware/freeware programs that reportedly support SMB Mac transfers....

get a cheap windows based laptop. i got an Asus for cheap. 300 on Amazon. All I use it for is monitor and transfer.

Nope, when I had the MS300 and Sonos I kept a older MacBook Air that had Snow Leopard just so I could mount the unit to sync the library using the SMB command.

Windows 8 does it. There are some very cheap laptops that have the operating system on them. I feel your pain, I am an OS X guy as well.

somewhat refreshing that I am not the only one with this problem - and the sole reason to keep an old mac running.

not too keen to purchase a wimpy PC/Windows just for this very purpose - I don't need more hardware in my house.....

come on, there has to be a way to use SMB mounting in Yosemite?

Maybe run the older version of OS X using virtualization software like Parallels?

the older versions support mounting of the MS750/300 drive and file transfer - it is the newer versions (and not sure when the feature was lost) that dropped the ability to do so. It appears to be something related with the SMB file transfer protocol. This has been a common problem with Yosemite (and other versions) for people who need to connect to file servers (not just MS ones) that support the older protocol....

I would really prefer not to get another laptop/desktop nor have to depend on a aging machine with an unsupported OS to do this....
