Default Vandersteen?

I've got an audition with the ARC DAC8 at a local dealer on Sat. They seem to love ARC and Vandersteen.

The Vandersteen 5A is around the range of what I'm considering. How does this bad boy compare (other than in looks) to others in the price range (e.g., the 802Diamond, Sophia III, PMC EB1i, PMC IB2i)?

What's the story with Vandersteen? They don't seem to be talked about much.

Well, that's still on the table.

As work gets busier and busier, building my own becomes less appealing.

On the other hand, I am having trouble identifying speakers under $20k with truly full-range bass sections.... and now I'm thinking I should build. :-)

Vandersteens are nice speakers..... Von Schweikert makes some great speakers as well, you may want to give them an ear

ARC loves Vandersteen and Vandersteen loves ARC.

I've owned several pairs of Vandersteen's and they are excellent speakers. Their model 2C has been in production since 1979 and is the biggest selling high end speaker in history.

Have you looked at building the Thor speakers from madisound. They got great reviews!
