The other OPPO players have good reviews there.

Well then you can either base your purchase decision on them or the other rave reviews who are contradictory. They are not my "go to" source.

Agreed. I don't really consider What Hi-Fi to be a very reliable review source.

I really like the idea of the Sonica, but I don't think it's a good match for me right now in my current setup. I might have to consider it at some point in the future though as a source/DAC in a simple 2nd system.

It is great to hear that everyone who has tried the Sonica so far really seems to enjoy it!

For $800 you can't beat the Sonica DAC in my opinion. Yes there is no remote or gapless play. I find I really enjoy the Sabre ESS chips in the Sonica. But everyone has to decide what is right for them. I try not to pay attention to the audio rags. They get so much wrong.

They are so far the only contradictory opinion, but in fairness to one of their points it is far more expensive in the UK plus probably VAT on top of that.

Well I try to get info from as many sources as possible... so far for this Sonica Dac all i read was good comments... until now.

Anyway, i am going to demo at home and will see for myself.

I am looking for streamer+DAC to connect to my MA6700 integrated amp and this Sonica has a very decent price.

Make sure you give it reasonable time to break in and leave it powered up. Also get both the software and firmware up to the latest versions as they sound different in a good way from the original versions. The other streamer contenders in that price range have inferior DAC's. It also reacts positively to an upgraded power cord though it doesn't have to be anything overboard. Just my opinion but your ears have to be the final judge.

Let us know what you think about it's sound and features once you've got a handle on it. Like it or not I am interested in knowing your thoughts on it. I've had mine since the pre-order release and think it is hard to beat at our price even as a DAC only. The other DAC's using that chipset start at about four times the price.

Sure I will.

I believe the dac of the MA6700 is not the best thing of this integrated amp so hopefully i will find some improvement with the Sonica.
