Looks nice. I really wish that they would add a couple analog inputs. This would then be ideal for people who are mainly digital but want to use a tuner or a SACD player that does not have the MCT450 model number on it ...

I also wish they would list what DAC chip is being used. The 9016 like the D150, or the 9018 like the MCD1100, or are they utilizing one of the new 9028PRO or 9038PRO?

If you have analog outputs on your tuner or sacd, you would go straight into your preamp. There's no reason to include a separate dac in your scenario.

But this is a preamplifier. I know they say digital preamplifier, but a couple basic analog inputs would lend to a heck of a lot more versatility. For example I probably would have gotten a D150 quite some time ago to use as a preamplifier except for having no analog inputs... just saying it would add more versatility and open up a larger market in my opinion.

Oh I see. Certainly wouldn't be ideal. Some people do this, but I've never heard anyone say it out performs a separate preamp.

The thing is not everyone can afford to get a separate pre-amplifier and DAC but also like McIntosh (or grew up next to the factory ). I do not believe it would prevent anyone who wants to buy the C1100 or C22 pre-amplifiers, etc., and then add a D150 as a DAC from making the purchase if there were a couple analog inputs on the D150.

It does stop those like me who would buy a D150 as a pre-amplifier (which is what McIntosh classifies it as). Yes I know that I could go a bit more and get a C47, but then again I am looking at a larger sized unit with things that I do not need, etc... and honestly pushing the budget too much...
