"Soon" to be available in the Oppo Sonica DAC.

Matrix Audio has released with the 9038 chipset, I am sure Gustard will update soon.

I have not listen to any mentioned here, but I can tell you the new chips are vastly improved. I had had the exact same machine, the Benchmark DAC2 HGC with the ESS 9018 chip, and the new Benchmark DAC3 HGC with the ESS 9028 PRO chip. They are the exact same machine otherwise. Wow, what a difference in sound quality. The new chips are hot. From my understanding the 9038 is even slightly better.

The features appear virtually identical, specs whys the 9038 has better dynamic range, up to 140dB versus up to 135dB, and TH+N is almost the same, -122dB versus -120dB.

Great chips!!! Of course we all know it is not just the chip, but how it is implemented within the DAC.

Exactly! The implementation is what matters most!
And as far as I know the dynamic range is not very relevant as it is limited anyway by the analog equipment (amplifiers)...

I want one Keith, the Oppo Sonica DAC looks very interesting If it can be controlled with Roon it will hit all the requirements I am looking for and I will sell my MCD500 which is still sounding very good .

One of the reasons I have been considering the Benchmark amplifier. Besides being a perfect match to the DAC3, I believe it is the highest rated dynamic range amplifier on the market. It has the same design criteria as the DAC3, professional studio, purity in sound with no coloration what so ever!
