Naughty idea with my Q7
What do you think Jeff Rowland 825 or 925 will do with Q7?
I m not sure what 925 will bring that 825 not, but power-wise, even 725 should be enough. Any idea on MSRP on 825 or 925 ? I admired the brand since I was 12, I saw the ads on AUDIO magazines. Love it. Now in 2013, I day dream seeing 925 driving my Q7. Toga |

Jeez Toga you are one lucky audiophile playing with gear at this level. I know Avalon took the new Compas speakers to Hong Kong last year and paired them with the 925's. I would think you would gain better channel separation and power reserves, though both options should be excellent. I like the 825, but I would be struggling to accommodate it's 2 chassis in my racks. I am puzzled however why bandwidth only extends to 50kHz ..even my 1060 extends to 150kHz. Imho the weak point with Rowland is their preamplifier; i'm not overly impressed by the Corus. It's not at the same level as the awesome Boulder 2110 obviously as the price difference would suggest, though i'm sure Rowland is working on a new preamp to replace the Criterion. That's what i'm trying work out at the moment, if the power amp is more important than the pre.
Let us know how you go! Last edited by Bodhisattva; 08-23-2013 at 12:51 PM. |

The idea is to keep Audio Research Ref40 pre amp. But Jeff amps have way low input impedance.
Corus could be much better when pair with new PSU. I don t have any idea about MSRP, but judge from 625 and 725, I feel they are more reasonable priced than D Agostino or Constellation. I am sure I will have the same problem, rack and floor space , too. I tried Continum 500 integrated once with my Revel Salon2. . But 625-925 will be much better of course. Can't say much until I know how much they are, the 825/925. Toga |

Make sure to listen to them first in your system. There an gentelman over at WBF who bought 925s based on looks/specs/manufacturer's reputation, only to sell them 3 weeks later.

The 825/925 amps have similar bandwidth to an average tube amplifier (ie: not impressive). The best high end ss amps achieve generally much wider bandwidth. That said, Rowland do follow a different path like Conrad Johnson, so it comes down to whatever is important to you.

What is the output device design? Again some sort of class D maybe since specs of both 825 and 925 are very similar to specs of old 312 and 301. |

3 weeks !
It has to be a mismatch or incomplete broken-in things. But who was the lucky guy who get them in second hand price.. You' re right I have to try them first, in my own room with my system, and this seems A bit impossible here. I guess one reason e 625/725 are not very pricey is because the switching power supply, Cost less, weight less. Toga Last edited by TOGA; 08-23-2013 at 01:57 PM. |

If I were you, I would try to find a distributor somwhere in Asia that has those in stock, and ask him to ship those to you (full deposit may be required). You may offer him to cover the shipping costs both ways if you happen not to like them. And if you do, and you decide to keep the amps - the shipping costs should be deducted from the sale price. That should make your a$$ covered. |

Here is one combo to consider: Constelltion Hercules bywired to Q7 with Odin's. Awesome dynamics! I didn't border to look up the price tags though.

Elberoth, we have Jeff Rowland importer here, but due to extremely low demand and low popularity, I believe they do not have even 725 here.
But I not that enthusiastic to contact oversee dealers, I rather find something locally. May be I may borrow 625 first if they have. I am able to try many products because of good relationship with many local dealers. Borrowing 925 with full deposit is not that easy for me. I think may be 825 should be good enough. 925 are over the top for me. Toga |
