Sure...but the steel needles are pretty hard on the shellac surfaces making record wear
a problem. It's probably best to have a modern turntable with a 78 rpm speed option if you want play a particularly rare recording. The Edison cylinder machine uses a permanent diamond stylus to play the hard plastic cylinders called "Blue Amberols". They sound particularly nice and have very little wear. |

DSCN0328.jpg DSCN0329.jpg Very beautiful antiques! What I have here, and should say this one's my Mom's, goes back even a bit further in time. Regina Single Comb Music Box in Mahogany with Ivory Pinstripe. I guess one can call it "audio". Mark |

This thread reminded me that this was in a storage box. Grandmother gave me this about 60 years ago. Made in 1923. Youtube of operation:

I always had an affinity for the old Zenith Transoceanic Radios.
I remember my dad buying a B600 around 1961. Had the built in Battery Pack, or could use AC current, tubes, and it sure would pull in some distant stations with that long whip antenna. Seemed like a big thing in the early 60's to own, I think many people thought it was a must-have with the thoughts of a possible pending nuclear Armageddon at the time.
