I believe my DAC-2 is shipping next week.

Even with the cost of the Modwright mod with the xlr outputs at about $ 1,200 plus the cost of the SE player the performance to cost ratio is still incredible. Not even taking in to consideration the video side and everything else this player does so unfailingly well.

I have ordered one of the Wyred 4 Sound DAC 2's and we will see how it stacks up. It should be a great dac, but it will be about a month or so before I receive it.

Buddy,

As the owner of a non-SE Modwright BDP-83 I will tell you that your cost vs performance comments are right on! Those on this board who have not heard the difference between the stock and modified players would be blown away...more on this from me in a separate thread coming soon.

I have heard very good things about the Wyred 4 Sound DAC, so I wll be interested in your feedback on that as well. One thing that the DAC will not do for you is play SACDs, DVD-As, and potentially some BD audio unless it is downmixed, so depending on how many of those non-CD formats you own and listen to, having Dan go ahead and modify your player still might be a very worthwhile investment, even if the Wyred DAC is as good as advertised.

Keep us posted!

Jeff.......This is a good point, and one I neglected to think about in my comment. My Oppo BDP-83SE in the studio home theater system gets a fair amount of use with multi-channel SACD, and DVD surround concerts. It is an amazing performer in its stock condition.

Is Dan doing the SonoS upgrades? Or is that another outfit?

Anyone here have one of those?

I'm not aware of ModWright doing any SonoS upgrades, but you could always PM Dan and ask. I know he does modifications of the Transporter, but that is the only streaming device that I know of him working on at this time.

Interesting to note in the October 2010 edition of Stereophile, both the McIntosh MCD500 and Oppo BDP-83 Special Edition have been given Class "A" Recommended Component ratings in the section for SACD, DVD-A, & CD Players, & Transports, & Music Servers.

I miss my MCD500!

Actually, I do miss all my ex-McGears!

Perhaps one day I might just do a "I shall return" .........

"Till then its Meridian" ..... Hey, not bad, its rhymes!
