---In my car (truck) it's SACD (Multichannel).
At home, for me, analog FM Stereo r.a.d.i.o. is well and alive! ...Thank you very much Elvis! |

EXACTLY. Road noise in a quiet car and windows closed is about 70 dB at 60 mph on most road surfaces. That means you have about 20 dB of dynamic range unless you're blasting your ears out at 100 dB listening volume as you drive, which will give you about 30 dB dynamic range. A transistor radio will do that!
You could only begin to benefit from an SACD in a car if you are parked. |

Looks like I may in the minority here with the car stereo thing. I put some money into it since I do enjoy tunes in the car and factory systems make my ears bleed. I went with a McIntosh MC 440 6 channel amplifier running 4 Focal K2P component sets. Subwoofer is a JL Audio 10W6 driven by an Alpine 600 W single channel amplifier. Sounds great. Stock pic of amp:

WOW, did you have to rip out your dashboard and make a custom one to install your McIntosh system in your car?
With the car radio "dial" display, the navigation, air conditioning and everything else you car gives you information about coming up on the same display, how did you install the system? It's not like the 1980's where you just took out the OEM radio/cassette and installed an Alpine, Blaupunkt or Nakamichi in its place. |

Acura's offer DVD-A & active noise cancellation in their factory car audio systems.
FM Radio will continue to stay as long as the FCC permits the use of those channels. Really like the posting about McIntosh Car Audio. Too bad they have not updated any other equipment-- It generally doesn't fit the design of most interiors, only looking good in a mid 80-90s Crown Victoria or Lincoln Continental. Car Audio & FM Radio are still worth while lines of efforts for the music industry. I look forward to reduced cabin noise in newer cars and cleaner signal. |

Now really. Who says college students are the standard of experience and the fount of all knowledge? I don't mean to put them down, but there are other people who do different things, right?
