Default Just pulled trigger on Ref 40

As talking to an old dealer friend last week and he told me he had recently received his last Ref 40 from ARC...while I had thought I missed opportunity to get a new one....I quickly said yes...and will replace the 3 week old Ref 5SE..

It was silver so now on its way to Minnesota for all black facelift...

Good news is I will be able to compare the 40 to 5se

Will keep everyone posted

Congrats !

The Ref 5 SE did not have a long life in your home.
Very interested also in your comments when you will compare both.

This change was less about the 5SE and more about the opportunity to have a new Ref 40. I am not going to part with the 5 and will try to figure out a way to use it. I had called this dealer because I wanted to get a quality preamp for my study system which is based on the Woo WES/Stax 009. I found that using the WEs volume pot was not ideal for my sources and wanted a low noise wide bandwidth preamp with a high quality volume control. My 3 options were the KX-R, Moon P-8 or Moon 850P. I already have a KX-R and was hesitant to get a second so I decided on the 850P and when I called my dealer to order...he threw me for a loop by saying he had a new Ref 40.

I had just set up the Ref5SE in my cabin system paired with a Ref 150 amp and Wilson Duettes. Naim HDX/NDAC/PS555 music server is only source. Cabling is all Transparent ultra

The Ref 40 will go in that system...and I will keep the Ref 5SE up there to compare.

The Sashas are in the HT/2channel system where a solid state preamp (Ayre KX-R) works best. This system has the Ref 250 amps and a linn LP12 SE/ref Phono2SE and Ayre DX5 as sources...Ref DAC on order

To be continued...
