You are helping me out bigtime. Many thanks.

Those Tung Sol and Phillips tubes aren't that expensive. Tube Depot has the GL for a good price too. None of that is NOS and easy to come by.

I'm not yet ready to tube roll but I bet I do eventually. I'm still gathering my feel of these 275 monoblocked on my XRT1K. Gonna give it more time with stock stuff.

JC.......That's definately the way to go. It pays to be fully in tune with the stock amp sound before you begin swapping tubes. Without a base reference, you won't know if you're gaining or loosing once you decide to experiment. There are lots of folks who love the stock factory McIntosh tube set, and would never consider tube rolling. I am a tinkerer, and a tweaker, sort of a mini audio pioneer, or audio idiot depending on how one thinks about it. I don't make radical changes, but I am usually game for an improvement that can be had as easily as swapping tubes.

Stock cords?

Power conditioner?

Dedicated 20 amp lines?

I have my 1201's right into the wall and 20 amp dedicated line for each. Not sure I should do that with the 275's. Any input is appreciated...

jc
JC.......I am running the entire tube system from one dedicated 20 amp circuit, with the exception of the XLS112 subwoofer. It is on its own 20 amp dedicated circuit. Even adding the second MC275 to the system, the total full load current of the C2300, MCD500 and the MC275's is less the 8.5 amps. I could add the XLS112 to the circuit (5 amps) and still be less than 13.5 amps, but the sub sits too far from the dedicated outlet that feeds the tube system rack.

I use Wireworld Silver Electra powercords, and Wireworld Silver Eclipse interconnects on all the components. Kimber 8TC is my speaker cable.

The Gold Lion KT88 power tubes arrived today for the new MC275 amp. The Philips and Tung-Sol tubes will be here tomorrow, and the second MC275 from Stephen should be delivered on Wednesday. The tube system is coming together nicely.

Can't wait for the reviews...

Or, should I say, your wives review....

John.......Yes indeed.

Stephen (two dot) decided to sell me the other amp that Terry sold him, so now I will have both MC275's that Terry originally owned. I can't wait to get them both warmed up. They will help reduce my heating bill in the studio this winter.
