Yup, smoother frequency response because one Gotham functions like two co-located subs, while two separately located F 113's have less room effect.

That sounds plausible but what about the f212?

Stereophile: JL Audio Fathom f212 powered subwoofer

I use two F112's myself but may upgrade to dual F212's for the theater.
Serge,

I have two F112's in my home theater now and have them dialed way down to around 9 o'clock, my home theater room opens up into a very large area behind the rear seats. Unless your theater is really huge you should be good with the two F112's.

The article makes my same point in the conclusion - two subs, not co-located, have a smoother frequency response than a single sub. Do not be fooled by the Velodyne curve - I have a lot of experience with the SMS-1 (the Velodyne stand alone unit) and I can get a table top flat frequency response for you, so long as I can clamp your head in the exact same listening position each time. Moving the mic even one inch produces a hugely different curve. Don't get me wrong, it is a very useful tool within certain limits, but you really have to trust your ears over the graph. And, frequency response tells you nothing about decay time, which is the real bane of subwoofer performance. Two subs in two locations helps with decay time as well.

I hear ya buddy. But I still wouldn't mind hearing a Gotham one of these days. In the end, the Gotham was just too much weight for me to deal with.
