Well I have just recently purchased the S3 and am expecting their arrival next week sometime. I would say, at least in my case, I would not have been able to afford a more expensive version of the S3 speaker which we all know will be the outcome of any version 2 of anything Magico or otherwise.
Besides that, unless you got a money tree in your back yard (apparently many do), there is no point in trying to keep up with every model change that happens these days by some of the manufacturers. A few years ago you could purchase a speaker with relative confidence that it would remain current for at least 5 years or so. Now, these guys are spitting out new models every year or two basicly killing the value of the previous models just so they can add one or two new Doodads to the model and jack up the price another $8-10K each time. At the end of the day, even the version 2 will lose 40% of its value the moment you walk out the door with it. Reminds me of the automobile market, but worse! |

Newer is not always better, can be just different.
Still enjoying my "ancient" V3's, have them 5 years now.

S3 are great speakers by any measure. Many say the best sounding from the whole original Magico S line (S1/3/5). Enjoy !

24.500 euro for the new S1..., that's a huge jump from the original S1. I will have a listen this summer as part of new speaker search but the new 802 D3 is a serious contenter at 22.000 euro per pair.

These prices are going through the roof, originally the S5 was 28000,- Euro in the Netherlands.
