And how about the spec for the power supply? In September I plan to replace all stuff that may be dodgey in my MX300. I have the 750 hard drive, need to add the power supply and either that Sony CD-RW or something better. Thoughts? Anything else to replace?

The Sony CRX 330 E will work also. It is CD-RW with DVD as well.

Shopping, I see two versions of this one with a B/2 designation. That one different? I also see a tan version. Can one use that and just snap the front off the old one?

Yes, you should be able to use the tan version.

I am not reading so much about these failing like the drives and main boards, so maybe stock up on one so they do not disappear, but not install right now?

I would purchase and extra or two depending on how often you use the cd dive. I have a player piano that uses a similar cd drive. It has failed twice. It does get used a lot.

I will buy one as spare, though I use it almost never as my collection is about complete, BUT it does need adjustment I guess (it is very hair trigger, often closing right after the opening command using front panel button), so 3-4 retries needed until it stays open. Then it opens and I load CD and sometimes is starts to close again before commanded. Bad drive or something else???

Steve.......The drawer open and close commands are part of the operating system software. I would be surprised if there is an issue with the CDRW transport.

hmmmmm..intuitively that makes a lot of sense, Dan. When I move to the new drive I bought (September will have the work done, along with new PS), maybe that will sort itself out. Don't use the drive a lot, but when I do it is irritating and has almost "eaten" a couple of CD's.

It is possible that your 'Eject' button is sticky. When you press it, does it feel the same 'click/tactile' feedback as other buttons?
